Planning a trip in the fall which will include driving from Death Valley to Monument Valley. We've never been to this part of the country before and are looking for some advice on the best route to take for a 38' motorhome between Death Valley and Monument Valley. Sure don't want to take the wrong road!

Thanks, again, everybody! We decided to rearrange itinerary and do Monument Valley in between Arches, Canyonlands, and Zion. Best to do shorter distances out there in the desert!

mswitzer, you asked about the time -- towing a trailer, we figure that we average 50 mph, including stops. So 500 miles would take us 10 hours, minimum. We almost never cover that many miles in one day.

Five hundred miles is two days. What’s the rush?

Google maps says 509 miles, or 8 hours, but probably more like 10 hours in a big RV, right?

Thanks for those very useful replies! We've been all over the US also, just never the far southwest. We're starting in the fall in SC, then Hot Springs NP, family in Nebraska, Great Sand Dunes NP, Mesa Verde NP, Moab to see Arches and Canyonlands NPs, Red Rock Canyon outside Vegas, Death Valley NP, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest NP, then home. Whew! Just got tired writing all that! But can't wait to get started! Thanks again!

Go to Monument Valley first and then Death Valley the first of November for the 49ers celebration. Awesome.

Monument Valley to DV: I-40 to AZ 93 or 95 into Las Vegas area (ways to bypass the city) to Pahrump, NV or weave over to I-15 to 127 north to Tecopa, NV & Death Valley Junction.

Also stop at Grand Canyon South Rim from Monument Valley.

Google Maps shows the roads are all good. Advice - Next time you're at a truck stop pick up a copy of the Motor Carriers' Atlas. It shows all the highlighted routes in the US approved for 18 wheelers. FWIW, I've been all over the US and haven't found a road we couldn't navigate. Yes there were some we were sorry we were on but we still got through.
