From Kingman, Az to Las Vegas over Hoover Dam ??

The last time I took this route was not long after 9/11. We were detoured because they did not want RVs or trucks going across the dam. You could do it but it was a real hassle. IS THIS STILL TRUE? Or can you cross without incident?

We were lucky enough to visit Hoover Dam prior to 911. Took the "Hardhat Tour" and it was amazing. We were able to stand at the bottom of the dam and look up to the top and only imagine how much water was being held back. You automatically started looking for leaks. It gives you a good understanding why they don't allow it anymore. Drove across the dam years ago and even though spectacular you need to see it from the inside to really appreciate this architectural wonder.:)

I was over it both ways this weekend and it is fine to drive anything across that you want to no security etc.

I have been over it many times. You will see High Wind warning signs but not to worry the Wind signs seem to be permanent. I have yet to encounter noticeable Wind, just be in the left lane as the signs tell you too.

I was there a couple weeks ago. The parking is mostly on the AZ side according to the security that looked at my camper and truck. If you take an RV over to the parking (and across the dam) you will have to open it up along with storage compartments. Just in case anyone following the thread might want to take a tour like I did.

Drove down to the dam in February to look around after walking to center of the new bridge. We drove across the dam and up to the top of the ridge for an excellent view of both the dam and the bridge.
Welcome to my home, that door you just broke down was there for your protection not mine.

Look at Hoover Dam on Google maps, satellite view. You'll see the new bypass bridge is part of Hwy 93. I'll be going across it for the first time in July. Last time I went across the dam, they were in the middle of building the bridge. It was an awesome site to see the half-way built bridge from the dam.

With the new bridge you'll be across the Colorado River before you realize it - unless you pay close attention to visitor parking signs.
