Planning to leave tomorrow from the Central Valley to Indian Wells (new at the snowbird gig).
Snow and high winds are being projected over both these routes.
Any suggestions...please!

Snow and high winds and RV?
A definite stay off the road until all is determined to be safe.

Why on earth would anyone want to put themselves/family and others on the road in danger. 😞

Personally, I would choose Tehachapi over the Grape vine. Less steep, long grades. The road is in much better condition on the Tehachapi and less hard on your RV.

IMHO + experoemce, I generally find the National Weather Service the LEAST accurate of the many weather applications. The NWS tend to awfulize the conditions. When I left Bakersfield the NWS reported 20 mph winds at Tehachpi, based on other weather apps reports, I took off. The winds were no more than 7mph. I look at 3 or 4 other weather applications and based on genera/average predictions, I make my decision to leave or stay.
If it is windy I just get behind an 18 wheel truck until I get out of the wind.
If in any doubt, stay put at Bakersfield until the storm or wind blows over.

I would wait also. I understand that both 395 and 14 are closed to all traffic larger than an auto. Wait a day, the storm will pass.

It appears this storm will be a brief one, so why not just stay put for a couple of days? The combination of snow and high winds makes for poor visibility as well as other adverse conditions.

Hang in Bakersfield until winds die down, then pick best route from current weather report.

We left Bakersfield for Yuma in Dec with more or less the same warnings over the Grapevine we went ahead and no problem whatsoever. Roll the dice

X2 on the stay home (or where you are now) idea. At least until this storm is over.
