Highway Shootings Precautions

With the rash of shootings along I-10 in Phoenix and the unsolved shootings along I-25 in Northern Colorado, have you taken any precautions traveling in these areas. If so, what have they been? I guess the safest course is to avoid the areas or re-route. For those in these areas, do you think the increased police presence has made the area safer? CW may need to add Kevlar to their catalog/store inventory. Sadly, it's becoming like Kabul over here.

There's a whole lot of people in Phoenix. FLIR would find them all.

I had assumed, maybe in error, that the shooter(s) were located in a rather sparsely populated area (like a desert?) instead of in an urban area.

I believe these shootings are happening right in the middle of the Phoenix urban area.

Now there's a headline (thread title) you don't expect to see in a first world country.

Have the powers to be recommended detours or anything or gave they pinpointed it to any specific area. Tough to track these types down. You wonder what kind of mentality you have to have for this kind of thing.

Are you more likely to be hit by a bullet or a car on these highways?

I'd rather take my chances with the bullet. This is the craziest place I have ever driven and I've driven in many places for many years.

As for precautions. I am very cautious when coming by someone with a window down or someone passing me with a window down. Although its been cooler the last few days a window that's down is just not the norm. This is something the police have failed to tell drivers to watch for ESPECIALLY if they hear or see something.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully it's the real shooter. Stuff like that seems to grow copy-catters.

BREAKING NEWS:

2 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY

White Tahoe blocked in parking lot by undercover officers.

Found this;

"Arizona state troopers have a "person of interest" in custody late Friday morning who might be linked to the string of Phoenix-area freeway shootings, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.

Troopers detained two people near 107th Avenue and Interstate 10 after 10:30 a.m. Friday. At a press briefing an hour later, however, a DPS spokesman clarified that only "one person of interest" is being held in the investigation."

I would avoid the area. My windshield was shot out many years ago while travelling through southern Alabama on I-10. There's nothing you can do to protect against it other than avoiding the area. The person that shot out my windshield was never caught.

Isn't that a little bit of an overkill? A Bradley Fighting vehicle would be plenty for small arms fire!

Having been through the DC Sniper incidents (which were spread out and you never knew where it would happen next), I would at avoid I-10 if at all possible.

At least the AZ shooter(s) is concentrating in just one area.

Regarding I-25 in northern Colorado...

Just as a statement of clarification, there has been one shooting on I-25 in northern Colorado. Two other shootings involved a bicyclist on a county road north of Windsor, and a pedestrian out for an evening walk on a street in Loveland. The shooting on I-25 was a young lady who was hit in the area of the Harmony Exit for Fort Collins on I-25. Police have established a connection between all three of these shootings, but have not revealed what that is. A suspect vehicle, a "vehicle of interest", was revealed in a press release some time ago. The young lady that was hit survived, however the other two were killed.

There have been instances of windows broken on travelling vehicles on I-25, but according to official reports, none of them have been definitively described as shootings, as no ballistic evidence has been found to support that conclusion. None of these instances have involved any sort of RV traveler, whether a motor home or trailer.
