Visalia, CA to Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA Watsonville, CA

I live near visalia and travel to Santa Cruz regularly...here is the absolute best route from visalia...

198 East to 99 North
99 to 152 West
152 to 156 West
156 to 101 North
101 to 129
129 to 101 North

You could start by taking 198 west to I5 north if you prefer...everything else is the same.

Hwy 198 is one of the more scenic ways to get from I-5 to Hwy 101 and has very little traffic. Going the entire distance I will see only a few cars the entire distance. The alternative is to take Hwy 58 or Hwy 46, and I prefer Hwy 58 which has a lot less traffic than Hwy 46.

Looks like 152 would get you there, but the map appears the road is very twisty between the 5 and Watsonville. If you are not limited by time and want a more scenic route, you could consider going further north in order to stay on freeways. Either the 5 or the 99 to the 120/205/580, then pick a route through San Jose.

I used to live in San Miguel. 198 is a bad choice. As JohnG3 said, you are better off on 41 to 46 to 101. Still, these are country roads, narrow 2-lane blacktop. Where are you now and what is your destination?

If you're coming south on I-5, your best bet would be to take Hwy. 152 over the hill down into Gilroy and then to 101. But, like others have stated, we're not sure where you're comning from or going to.:h

I've heard that for several miles over the top the road is dirt. Not a pretty picture for a Class A. Guessing you are heading north on 101? I'd go north on 5 to 156 to 101 in Gilroy. If going south, take 41 to 46 to 101. DO NOT take the 41 left turn from 46 that a GPS will show you about 20 miles from Paso Robles. Go all the way to Paso as 41 is another narrow road not advisable for a Class A.

I wouldn't do it, only driving car or motorcycle. Curvy and tight.

Which direction are you headed, north or south on 101?

If going south, take 5 to 41 south, at Kettleman City.

If going north, take 5 to 152 west, near Los Banos

I would take the 41 to the 46, then across to the north 101. Don't know where you are coming from, so I can't help you more than that!!
