Huge trip

Hey everyone, I've got my big summer trip planned. This will be by far the biggest road trip I've been on so I'm a little concerned I've bitten off more than I can chew, but I think it will would out great. Over 3 weeks and around 9 000 km I'll be hauling my trailer from Alberta down to North Dakota for a family reunion. From there down to Mount Rushmore, then over to Omaha (I want to see the zoo!), then all the way down to Texas before heading west to see the Grand Canyon, then north to Yellowstone before heading back home. It's going to be quite the trip!

That is only 266 miles a day every day for 21 days.
Stop 1 day for your reunion. The next day you will have 532 miles to make.

Break down along the way for a day. You will never make it.

Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Devils Tower area maybe Wind Cave alone will take at least 3 days to see. Now you are over 700 miles behind.

Skip Omaha & Texas and then you will probably still be short of time.

X2.Even at that Grand Canyon and especially Yellowstone could take a good deal of your time. Don't be the guy who gets home from vacation more stressed out then when he left!

I would suggest an alternative plan "B", so once you get started on your journey, if things change, you can adapt on the fly and not feel cheated you can't make all your destinations. On paper, things always sound GREAT! But once you start "execution", it doesn't always turn out as planned. All I'm saying is, keep an open mind. Driving those distances every day will wear you down pretty quick. Be prepared to spend a day or two at different spots so your body has time to recover from wear and tear. Towing a trailer that long every day will take a "tow" on you too. All I'm suggesting is, plan on a "Plan B", but go for the "Plan A" and don't be disappoint when the old body screams and says ... "STOP! I ain't goin' no further until I get some rest!" Take advantage of your current location and enjoy smelling the flowers right there! It's the unplanned events when you travel that you remember the most!

Seeing Yellowstone without a reservation booked is almost impossible. During the season, traffic in the park moves at a snails pace, with huge crowds and limited parking.

Putting on a hundred miles and getting out to enjoy little bits of it is a full days undertaking.

Summer camping can be fun, but Walmart camping so you can spend almost all your time on the road just isn't like camping at all. Take the time to find out of the way parks instead of the popular places, relax in wilderness parks, and enjoy your new rig.

266 miles (428km) a day? And seeing all that? I'd say you've bitten off quite a hunk.

I can just see you as Clark Griswold walking up to the edge of the Grand Canyon, looking at it, and leaving.
