Which is better through (I-40) or around (I-440) Nashville? Looks like a lot of construction on I-440.

How is SR 46 around to the trace?? We know where it is, but haven't travelled it. I hope it is better than Carters Creek into Spring Hill. Otherwise, going to Trace SP, down the Trace is by far the best idea, unless someone is in a hurry, and I don't know that the other routes would be that much faster anyway. Of course another choice would be to come on over to Lexington and spend a night or so at Natchez Trace State Park here. Revel in all the resturants and shopping in Lexington (Walmart, Wendy's. Burger Chef, McDonalds,Subway) Fromhere continue down to selmer and onto Tupelo.

We bypass all that interstate mess in Nashville by using the Briley Parkway.

Get on 840 close to Lebanon, and go west, to the exit for SR46. Turn northeast on SR46, and it will intersect Natchez Trace parkway. By far the best route and light traffic.

Take 840 around the south side of Nashville. A bit further, but much quicker, and a easy drive. We really like defeated creek and Trace St park, stay at both yearly. What route are you planning??

Newest "beltway" is 840 - adds about 15 or so miles from Lebanon (MM 235)at the east edge of Nashville, crosses I-24 and I-65, rejoins I-40 at MM 176. Particularly good for weekday rush hour. Light traffic.

We've always just driven through on I-40, but tried to time it with "lighter" traffic - Sunday mornings are better, but not always convenient. Worse in our opinion are any of the possibilities for Atlanta. Ugh!

You did not specify where you are coming from or where you are headed. Have you considered Briley Parkway as an alternate route? It is all four lane with light traffic most of the time. It will take you around Nashville and reconnect you to I-40 on the other side or whatever road you are looking for.
