I 70 roads conditions

If you are taking I 70 through IL and Indiana be aware that the roads are horrific for the most part. We have been over them and won't do it again unless we find another route. FYI.

And that's from folks that live in OK, if you think our roads are bad just come up here. :E

We will be traveling through St. Louis in July and then on IH-70 until we reach IH-57. Is that stretch bad, too? I routed us this way because I read about the long delays on IH-40 in Arkansas around Forrest City.

I know that the Midwest had a severe winter so I guess potholes and bumpy roads are just something that we have to suffer through?

I grew up in Tulsa and within five minutes of crossing the state line when I go back I remember what I don't miss about it.

Ah! Another unhappy traveler passing through the great state of Indiana, only to fuss about our WONDERFUL interstater system! Two posts on the subject this week! Save your tires, suspension, and nerves by traveling secondary roads. I have switched my entire travel routes and never take interstates any more. Slow down and smell the corn fields and e enjoy country traveling!

Just did the full length of Missouri twice in as many weeks. MO is actually in great shape. I concur that much of IL and IN are bone rattling. One partial workaround (depending on origin/destination) is US 36 across Missouri (all divided 4 lane across Missouri now). As you cross the Missouri River at Hannibal it becomes I-72. Follow that and I-74 to to catch up with I-70 in Indianapolis. Much better for traffic, alignment and road surface. Someone may piggy back on this on a way to continue East and still avoid I-70.
