Jackson WY to Provo, UT

In June we will be heading south out of Jackson, WY down toward Provo and then south to Bryce.

Google Maps suggests two routes to Provo:
89 down to US-30, to 16, then I-80, then to 189

OR

50 miles or so on 89, then west on 34 to I-15, then south.

From reading several other posts, it seems there are a few variations to each of these also.

Can I please get some comments on these routes? Any info you can provide would be appreciated.

We're pulling a 30' trailer with a 6.7L Cummins.

Thank you

Did the 22 from Jackson to Driggs ID. First sign out of Jackson said 10% grade for 10 miles...they weren't kidding. Sorry to all the folks stuck behind me. Had to drop down to 2nd gear and crawl up at 25mph. Worst thing is there are NO pullouts the entire pass.

Down the other side was the same thing 8-9% for 10 miles or so. Engine brake helped immensely but still had to hit the brakes a few times to keep it under 50/55.

I like to take highway 89 all the way to Brigham City and then onto I15.

This will take you by Bear Lake. A bit of a climb out of Bear Lake into Logan canyon, but it is short.

This is the most scenic rout.

From West Yellowstone - and if you want to go through Jackson, I'd advise driving south through Yellowstone and into Grand Teton Nat'l Park, then Jackson and continue south to Hoback Junction to Alpine. Then take Hwy 26 to Idaho Falls and I-15. It a scenic drive.

Hwy 22 has a very steep, curvy pass. It's doable, depending on your mountain driving experience and confidence.

x2, definitely! Have driven both these routes, though didn't tow over Teton Pass (22). Did pull our TT on 31 and it was interesting, though not especially scary. 26 is an easier route to drive (despite the town of Jackson, which you pretty much have to deal with anyway* whichever route you take) and is plenty scenic.

* = I definitely recommend taking the truck route through Jackson. Watch for the signs as you're coming into town from the north.

I agree with the gypsies.

22 only if you are REAL comfortable in the High Country.

How about the 22 and the 31 from the 189? Is that an option for a 40ft MH and toad? In my case, we will be staying at West Yellowstone KOA, I'd like to return through Jackson and then home on the I-15.
Thanks.

I have taken the 89 -> 26 -> I15 at Idaho Falls and 189 south through Diamondville to I80. Both ways were an easy drive with no problems.
