New Mexico Routing

I drive a 32-foot motor home and have a toad. I have 2 questions about whether the roads are OK for me given my RV size.

1) From Artesia to Alamagordo is hwy 82 OK and not too narrow?
2) How about Roswell to San Antonio on hwy 70 to 380? Are the roads narrow or mountainous through Capitan?

Thanks so much

4 lane highway all the way. 70 from Alamogordo to Roswell,
relief route south to Carlsbad. My mistake, relief route is 2 lane!!

Are you talking about San Antonio,Texas? The others are talking about San Antonio, NM, the green chile cheeseburger capital of the world.

In 2014, I was going east to west. I turned north on US-285 at Fort Stockton on I-70. Followed US-285N to Carlsbad and toured Carlsbad Caverns NP. Then continued up US-285N to Roswell. Then turned west on US-70. I took US-70 because it is 4 lanes all the way. Kept going west on US-70 all the way to Las Cruces and picked up I-70 again. While coming down US-70 we did stop for a couple of hours at White Sands National Monument.

Loved all of these responses. So helpful. Re the video: it was interesting to watch. The music? I suppose the song wasn’t too bad but listening to it replayed over and over was challenging. At least it wasn’t rap or hip hop. LOL
Thanks everybody

If you can put up with the music (or turn it off) here's a YouTube of the Cloudcroft drive. You can almost find any questionable highway on YouTube nowadays.

I pull my 25 foot 5er up and down the hill between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft 3 or 4 times a year. Nothing to worry about. It has a few 6% grades and 35mph speed limits.

New Mexico has good RV friendly roads and camping locations. Have been up & down West road into Cloudcroft and no problem if you take your time. What isn't friendly are the micro-burst, thunder storms and hail during monsoon season. Had seven trees blown down around us with on hitting the MH in a NM State Park Campground. Insurance took care of repair! Headed back to NM again this summer.
