Next spring we are heading to Payson,Arizona. I am looking at getting off I-40 in New Mexico and taking I-25 to Rt 60 into Arizona. How is this road and how is the ability to get gas on Rt 60 pulling a 26 ft travel trailer.

I have lived in New Mexico the better part of my life and I have never been to Pie Town. It's been on my bucket list so maybe it's time.

No issues as it pertains to towing on that route, great scenery with mostly light traffic if any. My minor issue is I tow our 10K# 33' TT with a thirsty 3/4 ton Chevy gasser and with the tiny towns you go through on this route it's not like gas stations are abundant by any means.

For diesel trucks not much of an issue with better mpg and larger tanks, with a gasser keep an eye on your fuel gauge. We often tow long stretches throughout the four corner states where refueling opportunities are scarce and have become accustomed to carrying an extra 5 gallons in the truck bed.

Truer words were never spoken, er, typed.

You can gas up in Socorro, NM when you get off I-25.

We have driven US-60/AZ-260 from I-25 to Payson a number of times. It is a good route. We pull a 32' travel trailer and have had no problem getting fuel. However, we have a diesel and can use the truck pumps. I start looking for fuel at half a tank. We also do not drive more than 250 miles and often unhook to tour the local area so their are often opportunities to fuel without the trailer in tow. The Safeway on US-60 in Show Low is a common fuel stop for RV's.

Along this route is the Very Large Array. The Ghost Town of Kelly and some other Ghost Towns are near Magdalena.

Take a break in Pie Town.

There is a BLM campground at Datil Wells.
Safe travels!
