We are planning a trip from Niagara Falls to Long Island and we need a stop for overnight parking before we cross over the bridges. Does anyone know of a place we can stay overnight that is close?

At the Pennsylvania, New Jersey border there are 2 rest areas. One before the Delaware water gap bridge and one at milepost 8 in New Jersey. This puts you about 60 miles from New York.
If you want too stay close to the GWB take I 80 to I95 south the NJT and go to the Lombardi rest area about 15 miles south.
Stay in rest area. That puts you about 20 miles from the GWB

Thanks. DWG is way out of our way on this trip and Vince Lombardi is also on the wrong side. Trying to stay on the NY side if possible.

Actually DWG it is the prefered way to Long Island from Syracuse not the thruway. It is the way the AAA routes you, Google earth and Tom Tom as well. No tolls.
The Vince Lombardi rest area is accessible south bound on the NJT. After that go to an exit and reenter.
The route I gave you is the route I travel very frequently

We take the DWG route when we come from TN but not this time and we won't be going through Syracuse. Also we are not going into Jersey this time. Thanks anyway.

Please tell me you are not taking that POS road called 17/86

My BIL lays over in Cracker Barrels from time to time, so I looked this up. There is one just off of I84. You then connect with 684, which happens to be a nice ride southbound. This might work for you. They have rv spots in the rear. Also in the past when visiting cities, we have left our RV at a CG for minimul $. No hookups just a safe place to drop. Then drove in in just the truck. You might try that as well.

Thank you for checking.

I agree with darsben1. When ever I was going into NYC I would stop at the rest area on I 80 east just past Columbia, NJ and get up early and go into the city. Bad thing about Vince Lombarti is there are so many cars and trucks in there parked you might not find a place to park after about 4 pm - 5 pm.

I 90 east 63s outh I 390 SOUTH I 86 EAST I 81 SOUTH I 380 EAST I 80 EAST to the GW....Only way to go.

Thank you. I will try the I-80 rest area next year when we do our normal trip.

There are rest areas north of the bridges on 287 that you can pull into and sleep. Otherwise just about an hour north of the Tappan Zee is the KOA in Kingston we stayed over there once. http://www.thruway.ny.gov/travelers/travelplazas/restareas.html I do not think that there are any places between Tappan and Throgs Neck

Getting on to and off of LI sucks on a good day. Travel as early as possible in the morning, like 3-4am or during the over night hours. an Alternate is the ferry from Bridgeport Conn to Port Jefferson. It costs but saves you all that aggravation. http://www.ctvisit.com/listings/bridgeport-port-jefferson-ny-ferry

Thank you. Getting on and off of LI really does stink. If family wasn't there I wouldn't go near it, lol.

We could but I need to find a boondocking spot close to the bridge.

We have a place to stay in Carmel NY but I'm not sure how to get to the Throgs Neck while staying off the parkways. I was thinking of taking 684 to White Plains and then over to 95. I'm not sure at what point 684 turns into a parkway.
