anybody been n the Cassiar Highway yet? I think we are going to return that way in about 3 weeks.

We are on the Cassiar right now. We are spending tonight in Dease Lake because the road was much better than I anticipated coming north after 2 days in Stewart-Hyder. Except for 11-km of chip seal that started yesterday in Stewart and a 1/2-mile really bad stretch immediately south of Dease Lake (where they just tore up the pavement), the road has been as good as many State highways in Colorado.

So, all-in-all the road is in great shape. And, by the time you are here, the chip-seal job will likely be completed and the Dease Lake repairs may be at least to the graded-gravel stage. Just slow down for the tiny "Slow" signs next to the bumps and you will be fine. Drive it and enjoy the terrific scenery and, by the time you get there, the bears in Hyder (we saw only one young black bear and no grizzlies).

We are doing this trip as amemorial to old friends who traveled here several times and have passed on. Their first trip was before pavement in a Ford Ranger with a shell camper.
QUESTION: Their journals mention "Scullys" several times and we can not find it. The only thing we know it waas north of Carcross and probably south of Tok (or in Tok). Does anybody know where Scullys is? Has anybody ever heard of Scullys?

Thanks,
Mike

Wonder if this refers to Scully who lived/worked at historical mile 1118 on the Alaska Highway. We called it "eleven eighteen" in decades past, but it was also known as Kluane Wilderness Village. There was Scully's Saloon and world famous burl bar. Scully made wood bowls from burls, and he created some amazing other stuff from those burls too.

Scully is no longer there. The lodge is sometimes open, sometimes not. Mostly not.

Well, no bears yet at Fish Creek near Hyder, so we won't be staying here to watch their world-famous July 4th "ugly car parade." It's off to Kinaskan Provincial Park on the Cassiar for tonight. Anyone along the Cassiar right now?

Thanks Janet! Glad to know you got it and it didn't blow away! ๐Ÿ™‚ We just took a chance to see if you were there as we were bumping around town.

We got a waterside spot at Heritage (Yay!) and will be moving over to Driftwood Inn sometime this morning.

We spent 10 days at Klondike RV Park with some friends that flew in and rented a cabin there. We shipped 90 lbs of sockeye and halibut home with them on Tuesday. Kept a few packs with us for the trip. Headings north now on Parks highway. Spnding 4 nights at Mat-Su Valley RV Park north of Willow. Hope to do Hatcher Pass Road, Denali State Park and Talkeetna from this base. Then off to Savage River Campground in Denali NP.

Have only seen Lizzie & Butch so far, and that was way back in Whitehorse fueling up.

Be safe everyone!

We'll be in #81 at Hi Country here in Whitehorse for at least another week while our toad is repaired. ๐Ÿ˜ž If you're passing through, stop by and say hello. We did meet someone who reads the forum in the laundry room 2 days ago. Nice people. This park seems to fill up every night. At least WH has lots of services, public transit and a few attractions to pass the time, although after 4-1/2 months on the road, some downtime isn't a terrible thing. And there are virtually no mosquitos here.

Grandalf42, I got your message. So sorry that I wasn't at home to meet you both. Hubby is fishing so I was running around playing. Met Hjudge49. They are here at Oceanview also. Very nice people. A momma moose and baby went sprinting thru the park so we were all out trying to get a picture, but none of us succeeded ๐Ÿ˜ž

Everyone please have a safe but fun 4th of July!!!

Sorry for this post but I got to say it. I spent about 1-1/2 hr. at the Golden Nugget trying to get my 27 ft 5th whlโ€™er into 2 different 30ft sites and finally give up and left after getting my money back (4days). I was lucky as a couple from CO. was stuck there as they couldn't get a refund (4 of 5days). Poorly managed, overcrowded, and far from what the ad shows. Costco isnโ€™t worth staying at the CG.

Hey Lizzie, sorry I missed you the first time but glad you came back. You are the only one I have seen on the trip. Right now I am at Klondike RV park in Soldotna for maybe 4 nights. My Bride wanted a little break from traveling. I wish I could go fishing be we don't have room in the freezer. Oh well, maybe next time

We think the auxilliary brake in the toad malfunctioned and kept the brakes on
One of the reasons I have a MH dash light which is connected to the toad brake lights.
