Okay all my Alaska family...Here it is...
As requested I am starting a new thread for all you "Roll Call Alaska 2013" travelers to blog all your adventures.
This may help others traveling behind us or those going next year. Any news on roads, gas, what to see or miss. Anything.... just blog and tell of your adventures on one of our most memorable trips.

We start out tomorrow (only as far as Vegas..:C) but will be slowly heading up and away on our trip.

So start Bloging and lets keep in touch.

If you folks have not been to Valdez I highly recommend that you make the trip. The glacier topped mountains are beautiful and you are right next to them. We are in Tok at the Sourdough Campground. We are slowly heading for home. Please slow down and drive safe.

We took the Discovery Riverboat tour in Fairbanks today. Interesting and worthwhile. With this and Dredge 8 the tour book has been paid for. Now all tours are half price!

We are back in Rivers Edge, G9. We were here last week Thurs - Sunday had a guest fly in and went to Denali, Teklaneeka. Returned here today(Wed) until Sunday to put guest back on plane to NC.
There is about 12 miles of road work going to Denali so don't work too hard to clean things up. We did a good wash and then hit the road work area right behind the water truck. UGH!! Will be going back that way Sunday to Anchorage so we only hosed off the "chunks" today.

So far not much problem(5200 miles), few paint chips on toad and front of coach and dash A/C compressor went out. The trip to Fleetwood Anc. should fix that.

Took the toad from Tok to Dawson City and spent the night there.

We used Gas Buddy and generally purchased fuel in the lower priced areas. OP was the Observed Price as we drove past. With a small tank expect to pay more in the smaller towns, even $1/gal more.

Alaska Trip Fuel Prices

The following are the fuel prices that we encountered on our 2013 trip to Alaska starting 5/28/13. The prices are the actual pump prices and do not include cash back or discounts. OP is Observed Price, no purchase
US prices per US gallon.
Diesel: Chandler AZ $3.46
Gasoline: Chandler AZ $3.34

The prices in Canada are shown as C (liter)/US Exchange Rate. The exchange rate is about: $1.00C = $0.97US. AFD is a cardlock station that will assign a pin to your Visa card on the first usage. Fuel discounts may be available from hotels and campgrounds. 3 cents a liter is a common discount – however that usually means we would pay inside and lose the 5% PenFed credit card cash back. So we skip the 12 cents/gal discount and get 20-25 cents cash back. The choice is a no brainer.

We went on the Dredge 8 tour in Fairbanks and it was interesting. Short train ride, gold mining information and pipeline information. We panned $14 of gold. The stop at the gift area was a little long (wonder why?) but a nice tour overall.

I was able to pickup a ThermaCELL Mosquito repeller at WalMart in Whitehose for the same price I could have bought in Clinton Iowa. From the way it sounds if you heading to AK it might not be bad idea to pick one up and don't forget to get refills.

drive to coldfoot, the gas was like 5.15 inboth the yukon river stop and coldfoot really not much to see and lots of gravel spots that were long and hard on our camper 21ft toyota rv. food was very costly but the oatmeal cookiees at yukon river were a bargin and good. The artic cirle was just a sign on the road. it cost us 200.00 in gas hope this helps

Hey all ... keep in mind this coming weekend is a long weekend in Canada as we celebrate Canada Day on Monday, July 1.

In Yukon, the locals tend to not use the commercial RV parks because we have too many great territorial campgrounds near lakes and quiet boondock spots in the wilderness.

If you are also enjoying the Yukon gov't campgrounds, know they will be busy and possibly full this coming weekend.

Typically, the folk in Whitehorse vacate the city on weekends so it will be quieter than usual.

Another day and another campground, but this one has little or no mosquitos. Valdez is really something. Nearly surrounded with snow/glacier covered mountains. We are in Eagle's Rest RV Park.

Took our last ferry ride this morning from Juneau to Haines. Here for 3 days in Oceanview RV. There is a dungeness pot luck here at the CG -- $8 per crab.

While in Juneau we did a 3-night trip to Glacier Bay. Put the puppies in a kennel (Pet Nanny's Place if anyone is in need of boarding) and flew over to Gustavus. Used 2-for-1 coupons to save about $500 on room, flight and all-day Glacier Bay cruise. Fantastic! Also did a fantastic whale watching tour in Icy Straits. Probably so 25 or 30 whales including one breaching. If you have never been to Glacier Bay, it is well worth the effort. Also, since the AMHS ferry now goes there twice a week, you can take an RV. No campgrounds but all the folks we met were just told to park along roads out of the way and not on private property.

Saw gas here in Haines for $4.55.

Will head from Haines toward Tok on the 28th.
