Roll Call Alaska 2018

Okay...I know 2017 hasn't even taken off, but those of you that remember me from Roll Call 2013 know that I plan well ahead of time, lol.
4 years is way too long to go without being in Alaska so we are heading up again. This time my sister (Barbara), her husband (Pat) and their baby poodle (Koko) are going with us with their Bounder. We are planning to leave from Bullhead City, AZ around the end of May.
Would love to get a roll call started if anyone else out there is as much of an early planner as I am.
For those of you heading up this year, have a safe and wonderful trip and maybe you will enjoy it so much that you will join us in 2018. :W

Looks like we'll be volunteering again in Alaska as camphosts at the Tetlin NWR Deadman Lake campground at 1249.3 Alaska Highway. We'll be there for the second half, mid July to Labor Day. For all you passing through and enjoy drycamping stop by either coming or going. There is no fee it's free.

I think you are smart to downsize for the trip, I have made it several times in a 24', easy to get around in, but not to small to stay in.I always suggest 1 22' to 24' tag along. You want to go for pleasure, not fight a big rig all day long, soon takes the fun out of it.Good luck on your choise.

We are late comers to the party. We full time in a fifth wheel, and are seriously considering buying a small trailer or truck camper to make this journey.
I feel like places will be much more accessible to us if we go smaller.

We will be leaving from southern AZ at the end of April and hope to arrive in AK mid-late May.

Hope to meet up in Alaska 2018!

Mark/Leslie

We drove up in 15, size is not a big deal. We only had a problem once with our 35 ft fifth wheel and cc drw. There were no sites left in a private park that we would fit. Drove down the road a bit and found a site at another. If you don't mind drycamping most pulloffs are welcoming to overnite stays.

We're on the list for 18 see ya on the road.

Most RV parks begin opening mid May. Best to enter Canada middle of May slowly work your way North as things warmup, some parks may be open but not have the water turned on depending on the temps.

Having just retired in March, we started our first extended trip the first of June. We just returned home last night. In that time we crossed through 19 states and put 7600 miles on our motor home, plus another 3600 on our Jeep. While it was a grest trip we are looking at it as a warm up for next summer in Alaska.

My wife Ellen, our Goldendoodle Finnigan and I will be heading to Skagway to work for the summer of 2018. We will be leaving the Orlando area the last week of March to arrive mid April. Our employment will be over Sept 30 when we will head south.

Welcome onboard ! You are never late comers here. You are welcome anytime. Don't forget to make a sign for your window stating "Roll Call Alaska 2018" and your names so we can spot you while on the road. We have met so many great roll callers last time on our way to Alaska and while there. It was so nice to finally put a face to the people we were talking to online for all these months.

Janet

Thanks Janet.
We cruised there and stayed a couple extra days in Anchorage many years ago. Loved it. I'm so looking forward to returning. It's funny, we had a roll call on board too. Met a lot of interesting people and shared a lot of information.
I'm usually a big planner for vacations, but going for 4 months seems daunting.
I will probably just look for some highlights, then wing it. ??

Also right on the Yellowhead Highway in Smithers is a Safeway store. We discovered that finding a grocery store near the highway in Prince George was difficult. So, if you need to stock up someplace after Jasper, Smithers is the place.

We stayed overnight right next to the Safeway store (2015) and used the wifi there, nobody bothered us the entire night.
