route to south Lake Tahoe

Hello! In Sept. 2014 I will be driving my 38` MOTORHOME with tow from Groveland, Ca.(Yosemite Ridge RV resort) to south Lake Tahoe. Can I take 49 to Hwy. 50 over to Tahoe? I see older posts that say I 80 is terrible and I prefer no interstate when in a scenic area. This is my first time to the area! Thanks in advance fellow rv`ers!

Dan, do you mean you are agreeing with wgriswolds comments about route? What do you folks think about jmtandem saying “Take 49 to 88 to 89, shorter and very doable in an RV”. Which do you all think is the best route for me to take. A little shorter or longer doesn't matter so much. I rather go the route best for the rig. If they are equally passable then how about which is most scenic? Thanks!

The 88/89 route is more scenic and perhaps shorter. I have traveled both but have never measured the distance. With my trailer I prefer the Hwy 50 route because my Suburban struggles with steep mountain passes. My entirely subjunctive opinion is that there are more uphill climbs with the 88/89 route. I could do it but there would be more time in first gear at 30 mph. I often go that way when coming home from Jackson without the trailer.

With any threat of snow one should always go with Hwy 50.

I was agreeing with wrigswolds comment about that route, especially the Missouri Flat Rd part. P'ville has a couple very tight turns on 49 in town and the MFR way avoids them. I also agree the 49/88/89 route is shorter and very scenic. There should't be a weather problem in Sept. Either way is a nice drive.

Thanks Postgriswal I think. Sorry but can't see your name while typing the response. I will take your advise and travel this direction. Thanks again.

You have to go across the ponderosa, but I am sure the cartwrights will point you in the right direction. If you look at the map on TV north really is not north. Lol. Sorry have not been on the forum in a while and am a little silly tonight. Will
