I always thought this was only a remote possibility - easier to wind the lottery - but I guess it can and obviously has happened:

I wonder what caused the engine to catch fire?
In August we happened upon a burned truck at a pullout on BC highway 97 150 km west of Dawson Creek. I watched a tow truck load the remains. The driver tow truck said the truck had been pulling a new travel trailer and pulled over when the engine overheated. The pullout was right beside the Pine River and the driver went down to get water; when he got back the truck was on fire. Some people managed to push the trailer far enough to limit the damage to it. Even the back of the truck had little damage.

I wonder why vehicles don't have an audible alarm for engine overheating?

Bet he will be filing bankruptcy soon!

Very unlikely..... unless he owns a lot.

Yes his insurance company will pay with his liability coverage UP TO his $$$ coverage he purchased. I have a $1,000,000 public liability. Does anyone have more?

He would personally be on the hook for any costs over whatever coverage he has.

The way its worded it looks like no one with an RV would be allowed to drive through a tunnel. The fact the propane tanks did not ignite gives this guy a way to fight this in court I would think. Heck a tank load of regular gas is a dangerous cargo as well. What about hydrogen fueled cars? Ones made by Hyundai are starting to appear. Or a vintage Ford Pinto?

RV propane tanks are designed to be safe on public roadways, the tunnel is a private roadway.

On edit i see the issue was the chip wagon it was pulling. Still that was totally un-involved. He maybe should be fined for taking that into the tunnel, but it was not the cause.

In some places there are restrictions. It is illegal in Nova Scotia to drive with propane on... Or so I've been told anyway, not that I've read that specific rule in the motor vehicle act

There are two issues unrelated (fortunately).

First is the damage that he caused to the tunnel infrastructure, that is a cost, not a fine.

The second is having an excessive amount of propane onboard the trailer, that is what the fine is for.

I don't understand.. the propane had nothing to do with the fire, but he's being fined for the damage?
