RV'ing Florida in Summer

Hello,

first sorry for my bad english!

We have booked a flight from Italy to Miami from 12.07. to 24.07!
We want to rent a C25 RV and drive from Miami, make a short Stop in the Everglades, stay 3-4 days in the keys, and then we are not sure for now if going to Orlando or other spots!

Our worry is, if it is too hot in Summer for RV'ing in Florida, and have some fear of the no see ums!

Who was in summer in Florida with RV and can tell us something about?

Many thanks in advance

In over 30 years we have spent time in the Florida panhandle, Orlando area, Sarasota/Venice area, Key West, and most recently extended stays in Fort Myers.

In the panhandle between December to March, don't leave your sweatshirts and long britches at home because you will need them. Bring just one pair of shorts because you may or may not wear them once a week.

South of Sarasota, just bring shorts. If you don't enjoy being bitten by insects then use repellent. If you don't enjoy sunshine and warm weather, then refer to paragraph number 2.

The Emerald Coast beach photos are from the most northern part of the state in what we call the panhandle (the area that stretches over to Alabama), the keys photos were taken at Long Key State Park near Islamorada/Marathon, the Central Florida NF photos are from the Ocala National Forest north of Orlando. All are a long way from Ft Lauderdale's urban hustle.

fla-gypsy, thanks for your beautyful pics! I will Show it my wife! It is North of Orlando, right?

I am looking for a very central campground very Close to the las olas blvd and the las olas beach! We have found the "Northcoast park and marina", and the "Yacht haven park an marina", but they are 8 miles away from the las olas beach, to much for go with bycicle in the heat! One of this Parks is connected with a direct public Transport?

This is what the Emerald Coast SP (Northern Gulf coast in the panhandle) beach camping parks offer;

This is Florida Keys SP camping;

This is central Florida forest camping at it's absolute best;

It is important to note that most of these do not offer "walk to" activities, dining or shopping. Most can be accessed with a bicycle. If you need specific recommendations PM me for more.

Mickybz,
Orlando is half way down the state. Fla-Gypsy is talking about the Pensacola area. I was stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola for two years, and have been back since then. It gets "nippy" in the late afternoon and evening from time to time. People walk on the beach wearing sweaters or light jackets but nobody is in the water more than ankle deep.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

No seeums only attack tourists ! Crackers put their jeans on in the evening , tourist think they must wear a bikini 24/7 . If Florida is so bad in the summer I guess we will all go to the mountains and close Florida for the season ! I have lived in Floidah for seventy one years and I do not even know what hummiditty is ,must be sumptin only Yankees get !

In Florida during the summer we learn to adapt. We go out in the morning and evening with insect repellent and nap during the hottest part of the day. Disney World has evening fireworks and early access. Pool or body of water for swimming is a necessity as well as electric. If the RV has 2 air conditioners, you will need 50 amp service to run both air conditioners and you will definitely need them.

Welcome to Florida. First the noseeums do not attack everyone. They like my wife and leave me alone. Fla. in the summer is hot and humid but along the coast you get a nice breeze and beautiful sunsets and sun rises. You will need air conditioning to sleep at night. Depending on what it is you want to see you have many different parks. The state park system in Fla. is great go to Florida state parks on the internet and see what you like. Private parks are great also and most of them have pools. Orlando can be really hot in the summer it is a mass of asphalt and concrete just like any other big city. We RV in the summer in Fla. as that is when the snowbirds are gone. Enjoy and have fun.

Mickybz I will post you a few photos of places I think you may like later. Most folks coming to Florida do not understand that the best beaches in the state are those on the northern gulf shore in the panhandle which is a long drive from south Florida but there are many other features to see here. Not many CG's are located in areas where you can walk to good dining and entertainment but there are exceptions.

Sure? Thanks, i'm looking Forward to see your photos! You mean the Region arround Orlando?

We consider to stay some days in Leo's camp ground shortly before key west, and buy Cycles in order to go to the smathers beach and the duval street in the evening!

Was there anyone in Leo's campground? And is it possible to purchase or rent cheap used bikes between Miami and the Keys?

We're planning to go around 4th of July weekend in our new rig in the Cape Coral area. From previous visits, we're well aware of the noseeums and have found that continuous spraying helps as well as setting up a fan to keep them blown off you. Being summertime, we'll probably not spend a lot of time outside, and our rig has 2 A/C's, so we'll be comfortable. Mainly there to enjoy my family.
