Looking for suggestions on the route from Turning Stone resort (Verona NY) to Acadia National Park. We'll be traveling in July, towing a 30' fiver. We won't be in a hurry, but have seen most of NY and have spent time in Vermont and in the White Mountains. Do NOT want to take the NYS Thruway nor a long ferry ride.

Thoughts on these routes?

a) NY13 to I81 to NY37 (or US11) across Rouses Point then follow US2

b) NY26 north either thru Camp Drum or via NY812 to US11 to US2

c) NY12 to NY28 to NY30 to NY3 to I87 to US2

d) NY8 to I87 to NY74 to NY9N to VT17 to US7 to US2

How far east do you stay on US2? Mapping programs seem to want to get you onto the interstates.

We'll want to find a campground (with elec) after 4 to 5 hrs.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I guess it will depend on the weather and where we can find a spot to stay (will be traveling on a weekend). The last time we drove from Old Forge to Lake Placid we ended up following a logging truck all the way to Saranac Lake.

My problem is that I know the NY roads but from 30 yrs ago and only driving a car.

I like the route thru the Adirondacks. I pick up Rt2 in northern Vermont/New Hamshire and ride it across Maine.
Order is illusion. Chaos is reality. But right or wrong I'm still the captain. 🙂

From Saranac Lake, NY, we usually use 73 or 9 to get to /from 87 - not sure about Rte 3 up to Plattsburg... If you want some pretty travelling, look at Rte 105 east from St. Albans, VT all the way over to NH. Rte 3 south to 110 east, or Rte 3 north to 26 east. Lake Umbagog SP, just east of Errol, NH, does have limited hookups. You are definitely in moose country! Very pretty ride. You will pick up Rte 2 in Maine, which will take you east all the way to Newport, where you can get on I-95 to Bangor, then Rte 1 south to Ellsworth/Acadia area. These are definitely NOT interstates, but are used daily by cars/trucks of all sorts. ST

Choice "C" takes you through Old Forge, Blue Mountain Lake, Saranac Lake, and Lake Placid. Some of the nicest villages in NYS!!!!

Old Forge - Small shops, Kayak/Canoe Capital of NYS, and do NOT miss the Old Forge Hardware Store (always worth an hour or two!)

Blue Mountain Lake - Adirondack Museum, well worth the better part of a day!

Saranac Lake - Great food, and a good downtown shopping area.

Lake Placid - My favorite village in NYS!!! Shopping, great food, the WInter Olympic Sites, fly fishing on the Ausable, and the Lake Placid Brew Pub!!!!
