We have our first trip planned going to Fort Campbell Kentucky to see our Grand Daughter.

Staying 3 days Atlanta State Park close to Texarkana,2 days Shelby State Park north of Memphis,4 days in Bumpus Mills close to Clarksville Tenn, couple of days close to Tupelo Ms. Then couple of days close to Meridian MS. Then Natchez State Park then back home.

Any suggestions for things to see along this route?

Best thing of all I have convinced DW to leave stupid cell phone in truck and just check it once in a while! (we will see how that goes:R)

If your on interstate 40 in Jackson TN stop by the Old Country Store and Casey Jones Village, good eating and some nice things to see, doesn't take all that long.
You may have your reservations but Tom Sawyer RV Park would be a nice stop in Memphis.

Well we are back and we did stop at the Old Country Store my wife really liked it. Thank you for the tip!

Yes Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous is a short walk of 3 or 4 blocks north Of Beale street & yes it is just north of the Peabody Hotel. Speaking of the Peabody Hotel at 5pm a nice time to go to the Rendezvous. I love watching the ducks walk the red carpet from the pool in the lobby to the elevator. Back when you could use live decoys the manager came back drunk & put the live decoys in the small pool in the lobby. People loved them & 80 years later ducks are still there. Now back to the Rendezvous if you go there get the ribs as they are very good but a little different than most ribs in town. On beale I like the blues city cafe there BBQ is good but I love there tamales smothered chili.

No offence to Tupelo but no comparison with Graceland.

When in Memphis we stay at the Agricenter International it is as far east as you can get in the city of Memphis yes it is safe. Memphis has a very good zoo one of four in US that have panda bears. And BBQ now you have to like pork Memphis Tex. I like the Commissary got good chicken & pulled pork in Germantown south of the agri center. If on Beale street got to stop at Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous also city blues is good.

The Natchez Trace first do not speed! and don't speed up after you see first ranger. Just before you get on in Nashville a must stop is Loveless Cafรฉ look it up http://www.lovelesscafe.com/. There are all kind of places to stop like where Meriwether Lewis committed suicide or not. Tupelo you got to stop & see the shotgun house that Elvis born in.
I did not think the Rendevous was on Beale Street. I thought it was in an alley just across the street from The Peabody Hotel. Doesn't matter, wherever it is the ribs are to die for.

If you read again, the OP mentioned Atlanta State Park in TX, not the city of Atlanta GA.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I try to avoid any big cities pass thru quickly at off peak times if possible. We were thinking about Graceland but decided to do Elvis birth place in Tupelo instead. Will check out the country store mentioned.

If you are going to spend some time in the Texarkana area, you might want to consider camping in one of the Corp parks on Lake Wright Patman. We stayed at Piney Point campground both on the weekend and weekdays-the park was hardly used-maybe 1/4 full on weekends-has lots of trees, good roads and nice asphalt pads and it is not very far off highway 59. I think they also have some full hookup sites overlooking the lake also, but they probably go first.

Best advice I can offer is Be DAMN Careful in Atlanta and Nashville, We darn near collided when three cars if front of me came to a grinding hault for no apparent reason, Can you say Splincher Muscle over worked !!! God must have grabbed the bumper. Be super cautious in the large city's and AVOID Rush Hours at all cost... Good luck and enjoy your trip.

We will be on the Natchez trace near Tupelo and then again in Natchez. We don't want to drive the whole way on the trace. Sounds good about the Cemetery and homes in Natchez we will check those out!

Thanks for the heads up!

will you be taking the Natchez Trace Parkway? It's beautiful and lots of places to stop and read about the Natchez Trace along the way.
In Natchez we enjoyed driving around and seeing the Victorian homes and the cemetery. They have night tours of the cemetery with people in period dress. Near Natchez MS in Ferriday LA there is the Frogmore Cotton Plantation and Gins. From Clarksville TN you might want to drive to Bowling Green KY and visit the Corvette Museum and factory.
