Traveling to Klamath Falls/Crater Lake in October

Searched for this route but came up empty. We are looking to drive from Portland, Oregon to Klamath Falls and Crater Lake in late October. Looking at taking 140 off the 5 (near White City) and then using US 97. Has anybody traveled this route recently? Is there a better way for us to go from 1-5? Also looked at 58 out of Springfield, OR. We will be pulling a 34 ft 5th wheel. Thank you.

58 is by far the most direct and most traveled route and much shorter. If there does happen to be snow, it will be cleared way before 140. We lived in Klamath Falls for 40 years so know every road. If you don't need to get to Klamath Falls, then just go to Medford, camp at Stewart State Park, and make a day trip to Crater Lake.

What he said
Crater Lake NP. has been getting snow for the last three days ( just a little ) but the weather lady on the news said it could get 6" altogether with these storms.so check on the weather before you go to Crater Lake. CL Cams Stewart SP. closes on Oct. 31 for the season, Valley of the Rogue is open all year and it's on I5 about 15 miles north of Medford.

Central Oregon is getting cold. There has been snow in the mountains. Most everything around Crater Lake is already closed for the winter. So I would suggest staying in the valley as long as possible. Take the hwy from Medford up to Crater Lake. Make it a day trip and continue south on I5. To the CA central valley.

We have taken both 26 and 58. Both are fine. I prefer to get off the interstate as much as possible. Beware of possible snow conditions later this month. I use This site for Cameras in Oregon.
