Williamsburg, VA to South Mississippi

We will be returning to South Mississippi from the Williamsburg area in Mid June (leaving on a Friday morning). I have searched a good bit and have failed to come to a conclusion about whether it will be better to go back to I95 or I85 in Richmond or if going south down to the Newport News area and taking 664 to 58 and over to I95 would be better. We will be finished with sightseeing and just trying to get back to South Mississippi by this time. These are my questions;
1. If I95 or I85 in Richmond is best, which is the smoothest route?
(Which would have less traffic around Richmond?)
2. If the south to Newport News route is best, how is the 664 and
Hwy 58? (Smooth, congested, tight turns? etc..)
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I-95 is good road, but SB in fall and NB in Spring, there's lots of traffic. It moves OK, just crowded.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

I agree 64 to 295 to 95. I-95 is a good road and traffic flows smooth once your south of Richmond. Plenty of RV friendly places for food and fuel.

Smoother and MUCH less traffic to take I64 to I295 south to I95. You won't have to go into Richmond. Going through Newport News and the tunnel on a summer Friday can have lots of traffic and delays.
