We will be going south from Salt Lake City to see Zion and Bryce. What is best route from Zion to Bryce? 2 rigs 34' and 36' towing. Any other suggestions to see both parks? Places to stay (with hookups) and routes. After we leave Bryce we will head to Montrose and Durango CO.

If you are going to Montrose, you might want to consider Black Canyon of the Gunnison N.P. - quite different from Zion and Bryce, and still beautiful. We stayed in the park campground, loop B I think is the one with electric. Nice big sites and lots of deer wandering around. Also use your towed to go to the bottom of the canyon - great drive.

CloudDriver is right on (from experience). Ruby's Inn in Bryce and Zion Canyon in Springdale for Zion - avoid Zion River in Hurricane (way high priced and I had ethics issues with them - they still owe me money as they charged my credit card more than on the receipt)

Another route if you want to avoid the tunnel and the switchbacks going up to the tunnel would be to head toward Hurricane then take route 59/389 to Fredonia and go north on route 89. A bit longer but no significant grades at all.

X2 - just drove this route - no major grades but a few long uphills.
Watch your speed - the little towns are renowned for radar.

If you are an animal lover, you might enjoy stopping at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. They offer a free tour in their vans to see all the facilities they have to care for abused, hard to adopt animals etc. The facilities are amazing and are situated on 3700 acres about 6 miles north of Kanab. Good parking for RV's. The tours last 90 minutes + a 20 minute video. Check them out at

Zion tunnel restrictions. If you can disconnect the toad and have someone drive it, I would use Highway 9 to Bryce.

I always stay in the Watchman CG in Zion. Electric. There is water and a dump. I stay at Ruby's just outside of Bryce.
