Best time for Florida Keys 2014

I am trying to decide between a week in the Florida Keys either the last week of April or the first week of June. Would like to do some snorkelling and kayaking, as well as sightseeing. Which of these would you suggest...and why?. Thanks in advance for your advice!

We was very lucky to get that spot. My biggest advantage was being flexible with the dates. I tried to get it right at 8 AM and was beat by someone else. I remembered someone saying to check back for cancellations. I checked about 2 hours later and it was available and snapped it up.

This will be our second trip to Key West, but the first was a washout. We flew into Ft. Lauderdale and drove down in a convertible. It rained the entire trip. We drove with the top down most of the time. Hopefully this trip will be much better.

My niece is thinking about getting married in early spring. We have already told her not to schedule while we are in Key West if she wants us to come to her wedding.

HappyCamper - we will both be there at the same time for a few days. Maybe we can meet up and not discuss college football. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks again for all of the advice!! I have cancelled site 23 at Curry Hammock in April and now have booked a few additional days...May 27 thru June 8 for site 22 at Bahia Honda. We have never been to the Keys so any additional tips or things to do will be much appreciated. We are taking sit on top kayaks and snorkeling gear with us.

I will continue to check the Bahia Honda site for cancellations in late April or May, but at this point I am just glad to have finally gotten waterfront in May/June.

Reubenray, I am jealous of your reservations for site 17. I can tell from the pics and have seen others post that as being one of the best sites there!!

Site #22 is my Curry Hammock favorite. You might check Bahia Honda for cancellations aheaad of time. They also have some walk up sites. If you fine something there you like, you can cancel your Curry Hammock. If you cancel your CH by 11AM they will refund your money.
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

Very nice. There is a wide sand bar about 2000-3000ft of shore, hard to tell the distance. The family would paddle out to it, anchor off and play in 1 foot deep water every afternoon. We canoe/kayak and I lived in my canoe there for a week last July.

Thanks for your advice. I had made reservations for Curry Hammock for April, because there never seemed to be sites open at Bahia Honda. This morning, I was able to snag a waterfront site (22) for May 31st thru June 8. I was hoping this wouldnt be a time that is so hot and miserable that its unbearable. It's a little later into the summer than I had intended to go.....but that waterfront site looks amazing!

I don't know if you are familiar with the Keys and have a preferred place to stay? If not, I would go anytime you can get a site at Bahia Honda. I see sites available in June, not much in April.

I go every year in May. Two reasons, one the snowbirds are gone and two the weather has not gotten too hot. We stay at Curry Hammock with a site right off the water and there always seems to be a comfortable breeze. I also book at about 11 or 10 months out to be sure I get the site I want. I have tried more times than I can count to get a waterfront site at Bahia Honda with no luck. Maybe after I retire and have time on my hands I'll have better luck there.

As a long time South Florida resident, April would be my choice. Not too hot yet. Not really many spring breakers in the Keys.

IMO April will be inundated with spring break crowd. It is possible that most will be gone by the end of April. 1st week in June may be better but can be quite warm at times and sea grass on the beach is sometimes a problem. The snorkeling on the reefs will be good any time but swimming would be more pleasant in April.

Best time would be when you can get any reservation at a good rate. State park reservations are harder than hitting the lottery.

Off season at one popular park starts 5/1 and rates are about half of the winter rate. Another one I checked went down 10% on 5/1
