Any recommendations for a campground that is about a 20-30 minute drive (or closer) from Atlanta, GA? TIA!

We would have started this search months ago, but we didn't have our leave date until just recently.

Sorry, but you're outta luck. None of the COEs are going to work for you and I highly doubt you will be able to get one of the VEEEERY few FHU pull-throughs at Red Top.

Just keep the original campground and be smart about your surroundings.

Between McKinney and Red Top Mountain I like McKinney, but Red Top Mountain has a electric gate. So if you need out early or in late it could be worth staying there. Also if you have a large RV get a pull-thru, many of the backin sites are smallish

Oh no. We picked there because my husband's work has a branch there in Marietta, and it's super close to the campground. I checked reviews online (after I saw you two say it was horrible) and some were that it was okay, not much space, friendly staff....to they left early because it was horrible. No one mentioned crime. What to do. What to do. Stone Mountain isn't on our way or near my husband's work. Darn.

I live in Marietta. Trust me. You don't want to stay at that campground. :E

It would be worth it to stay north of Marietta at McKinney COE (Glade Rd exit off 1-75) and have your DH commute in to Marietta daily. It would probably take him 35-45min(which is a normal commute time in the metro-Atlanta area). Red Top Mountain SP is a few miles north of McKinney and it is a nice campground. Very busy in the summertime, though, since it is so close to Atlanta. If your Dh is working in Marietta, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of staying in Stone Mountain and having him commute. That would be utterly brutal, especially for a non-Atlanta native.

I have no experience with this side of Atlanta, but I do note that there are a couple of campgrounds about 20 miles north of Marietta on Lake Altoona. I have never stayed there, I am only going by your desired location.

Here is an example:

Thanks all for the suggestions! We ended up reserving a spot at Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort Park. http://www.amrvresort.com/

We are traveling south along I-65 and this was just kinda on our way.

Well, good luck. Just be aware, this place is located in a high crime area (Franklin Rd corridor). Stay safe.

I looked into Atlanta area CG's back in 2012 and we wound up at Stone Moutain Park. Liked it but I hope they upgraded their electrical service. We were there in July and my voltmeter showed the drop in voltage to be almost 10%.

We have stayed at Stone Mountain many times. I think that is the best choice for Atlanta.

Which direction are you coming from? There are many good COEs around Lake Lanier, which is up off I-85N of Atlanta. There are also many good COEs around Lake Allatoona which is up off I-75N about 40 miles north of Atlanta. Stone Mountain has a good campground about 20miles east of Atlanta. There is also a good state park at Cartersville, up I-75N about 40miles north or Atlanta. High Falls SP is a very nice campground about 50miles south of Atlanta.

There is nothing real close to Atlanta that you'd want to stay at.

Most parks are for trailers under 34 foot this one has some nice back ins that you will have no trouble getting in or out. The area is secured by electric gate so you need a pass to get in after 10 pm nice feature.
