Campground suggestions for northeast

We are looking for suggestions for a campground within about five hours drive from south-central Massachusetts for a stay of about five days at the end of September. We tow a 34-ft fifth-wheel and will be coming from Maryland, and are planning to meet and spend time with our adult son. Just want a place to relax with some light hiking, sightseeing, etc nearby. We would prefer full hookups, but need at least water and electric. We are thinking about the Catskill area, but are open to any suggestions and recommendations anyone might have. We prefer to stay away from cities. Thanks for any help you can give.

We stayed at this under-the-radar place in Grand Isle VT here. Views of the White Mts and Lake Champlain.

Northeast Connecticut has a bunch of campgrounds... including West Thompson Lake COE campground in North Grosvenordale (sp?) off of I395. Campground is beautiful, with nice and easy hiking around the lake. Has a dozen or so electric and water sites. In late September, especially during the week, you ought to be able to get a spot.

Further down there are a bunch of private campgrounds - Witch Meadow, Salem Farms, Riverbend, and more.

Thank you all for your great suggestions. We're working on our itinerary now, and will surely use some of your suggestions in our upcoming trip and/or future ones.

My favorite state park is probably within 5 hours of central Mass - Ricketts Glen State Park in PA. 2 campgrounds, dry camping, but bathrooms with showers. There is a lake, but the main attraction is the 22 waterfalls along a pair of streams that run from the lake. About a 7 mile hike if you do all of them. More Photos.

5hr drive from Central MA would almost put you back to Maryland. As posted earlier can't beat Normandy Farms in Foxboro MA, maybe take a day trip to the Cape or maybe even closer to the cape would be Boston Cape Cod KOA

X3 on Normandy Farms but make reservations ahead of time because there are theme weekends every weekend including three Halloween weekends in October,

In the Catskills, Yogi Bear on the River in Gardiner NY is excellent. Plenty to do in the area, plenty of farms for all sorts of things to pick, see, or buy.

Letchworth State Park meets all the requirements except for the water hookups. (I'm not sure I see why you'd need water hookups if you don't have a sewer hookup, since the fresh water tank is generally sized to approximately correspond to the holding tank sizes and can be refilled at the same intervals, but I suppose that's not really my business). There are other really nice NY state parks, too, such as Watkins Glen, many a little closer.

Lake Dunmore Kamperville in Lake Dunmore, VT consistently gets very good reviews. I have not stayed there myself as yet.

Normandy Farms in Foxboro. While there take a bus tour of Boston. Do NOT try to drive around Boston by yourselves!
