Campgrounds near Estes Park for biggger rigs?

Having trouble finding a spot big enough for our 38’ toyhauler near Estes Park, CO in July. Any suggestions?

I think Estes Park is a zoo.

Try the south end of the Park by Grand Lake. There are park, forest, state and private campgrounds there. Much more scenic too.

I see no one has mentioned "Spruce Lake" which is were we have always stayed: at least a half dozen times in the last ten years.

Given the choices in Estes Park, this is where we would most likely go back.

Thanks for the added input! We have a family reunion right there in town and I’d like to be as close to town as possible. I’m sending all of these to my travel agent (wife)!

H E R E - Estes Park is a previous post of mine that may be of use to you.

I'm frequently up there, as I live about 45 minutes away. Have been visiting that area for nearly 40 years, so I've seen the changes that have occurred up there.

For that size rig, realistically there are limited choices, as far as getting in and around. I've noted in the post some of the parks that are tight.

Ekl Meadow will be a good choice for a large rig. Goodly number of pull thru sites, it's not narrow and you don't have to dodge a bunch of trees. Plus it lives up to its name; Elk are always wandering through.

Estes Park CG at Mary's Lake is also all pull thru for FHU sites. It's run by the Town of Estes Park, so is non-profit and has the lowest rates in town. (Along with Estes Park CG at East Portal, but your rig is too big for that).

Have you considered staying IN Rocky? Moraine Park and Glacier Basin would both be able to handle that size rig. Also, there are USFS CGs south of town that would also be doable.

As to getting around in Estes Park, I can give you some pointers for getting around, depending on which way you come in to town.

My travel trailer is 38', tip to tip. Plenty of room in this park to get around.
The left turn down town is extremely tight..... I would avoid it!
Mary's lake route is great way to avoid the downtown congestion.

Elk Meadow took my 40 footer just fine..... had a 44ft toy hauler beside me, and a giant class a beside it. I will say if you do reserve there do not try to go through town because you'll never make the left hand turn in downtown. Take the road that goes out to Mary's lake and then go over. It dead ends into the park.

We stayed at Estes Park at Mary's Lake in 2011 and found it OK. It's nothing special but close to town and the National Park. We were in a 41 foot MH pulling a Jeep and had no problem fitting in. Of course, you should reserve a spot as soon as you are sure you want one!

You may want to look at Yogi Bear Jellystone. If I recall correctly they had some big rig sites though they are pretty tight. My site just barely accommodated our 34' trailer but they had sites for longer rigs.

The Estes Park KOA says 35’ max length and the campground in town is the same.
