See every single campground and rv park in the Black Hills Here

We normally stay in Hill City area but it is a drive between there and Deadwood.

If you want to see the black hills, Hill City is a good central location! We stayed at Horse Thief campground on Needles hwy. Great place with beautiful views of the surrounding hills.

My pick would be Steel wheel campground or Hidden Valley campground. Located 6 miles south of Deadwood on 385, owned by the same family, and kept very clean!! and have shuttle van to Deadwood. We stayed here last summer and would stay again.

I second Custer state park as a great place to stay. (near Custer, SD). It is about 1 hour south of Deadwood.

Things we enjoyed:
  • Wind Cave National Park
  • Custer State Park

Of course Mt. Rushmore.

Although we did not make it... the South Dakota Air and Space Museum.

Caution: some of the roads in the area very restrictive in the turns and tunnels.
