Fall Color Tour to the Northeast

Well we have recovered from the three month long Alaska trip and are ready for a new adventure. We are planning a month leaving September 15th and returning October 15. The trip will entail Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont.

We are planning 4 night stops in (Lake Toxaway, North Carolina), (Florida, New York), (Plymouth, Massachusetts), (Trenton, Maine). Other stops will be a night or two depending on time.

We have come up with a must do list on our own, but I would really appreciate any suggestions on places or attractions that are must see.

By the way, this trip has us visiting our last three states in the U.S.; Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont (Not all were in an RV). Woo Hoo!!

Thank you for any guidance.

This site is pretty good for waterfalls and swimming holes.

If you like beer some of the best is in Vt.
Heady Topper in Stowe just opened their new brewery maybe some of the best beer.(Heady Topper and Focal Banger)

Fiddlehead in Shelburne still open and building a new brewery. This was from a couple months ago tanks are going in


And then there is Hill Farmstead
Pretty cool location, love the food truck here.

Not going to be the best foliage up here not much rain.

Thanks. Hopefully we will get our fill of the colors farther north. If not, we could always slow the return to SW Florida as we really do not have time restrictions.

Ken, just an FYI: color in the North GA and southwestern NC mountains doesn't develop until approximately the last week of October

The season may run a little behind this year due to the late summer heat. The drought may also have a negative impact on the color, but not all of this area has had drought issues.

Most Northeast campgrounds close early because their water lines are buried close to the surface and would freeze up pretty easily. allstays.com has an "open all year" filter on their map pages and we have a number listed on our website that were sent to us on http://www.snowbirdrvtrails.com/offseason.htm.

There are a handful of private campgrounds open all year in the northeast. Aces High near Groton CT and Timberlane near Philly come to mind. The RVTravel Guide on Good Sam/Woodalls has a filter for open year round. Very useful.

Public CG's are usually the first to close, must care less about making a profit. Some as early as the week after Labor Day and pretty much all after Columbus Day. A few by the shore stay later, but not many. I always figured it was either because of freezing temps at night or the occupancy rate drops to much.

Wish someone would realize retirees like to camp after the summers done, and there are a lot of us.

Did not realize that campgrounds up yonder closed so early. Good to know.

My usual camping area - OH/WV/KY - is usually open through at least October 31st. Some are year round, though most have no showerhouses open in winter. Come on down and leaf peep here ๐Ÿ™‚
