Grand Canyon trailer village RV campground

Looking for some real world info on this campground
We will be going in oct of 2016 the website has that it is a mile walk to the rim of the canyon. Just wondering if that is true. It states that there is a free shuttle that picks you up at the gate also that would be convenient.

No, (at least we didn't pay a fee),
the only fee I know of is for the mule ride.

Everybody's experience can really differ, depending on how active you can be and personal tastes. All of the opinions are valid and have merit. So the OP will have to assess everything based on what they like to do and their capabilities. In our case, we stayed in Trailer Village in September 2014 for 6 days, and wished we were there longer. We hiked down into the canyon on Bright Angel Trail (great experience) and in total, about 30 miles during the stay. Also had some nice meals at the Arizona Room and Bright Angel restaurants, and enjoyed the sunsets, gift shops, museums, etc.

We found Trailer Village to be terrific. The Elk walking the campground, as well as mule deer were great to watch. The proximity to other areas of the park was nice and the shuttle service worked out great. We are looking forward to going back, even though we've been there 3 times (twice south rim, once north).

We are more active than the average family, so we planned 5 days at the GC. We watched sunrises, sunsets and went on two hikes. Still, we decided to leave after day 3.

I don't say that to take anything away from the park. It just is what it is.

Here is a LINK TO PICS of the Grand Canyon RV campground. Like others said, the shuttle will take you anywhere you want to go and picks you up right at the gate to the campground. You will see Elk wandering around the edges of the campground also. I would think 3 days there would be enough. Once you have seen the views from the canyon rim, you realize it looks the same from everywhere. 🙂

We stayed there. As others have said, the free shuttle takes you everywhere -- very convenient. Only thing with this RV park is that you don't reserve a specific space -- you make a ("generic") reservation for the park. Then they assign you a space when you get there.

We have stayed in the Trailer Village RV Campground on the south rim of the Grand Canyon several times. It is less than a mile walk to the rim. There all full hookups, to include cable, for a very good price. Elk and deer often wander through the campground. We did not find it tight at all. It is a very short walk to the village store, cafeteria, gift shop, and post office. The park shuttle picks up and drops off at the campground entrance at no charge. Make reservations now and have a great trip. Oh, I think someone mentioned there is a charge to go into the canyon. There isn't. It does cost a pretty penny to ride the mules into the canyon.

Stay in Williams and take the train UNLESS you plan to spend more than the average 3 hours at the South Rim.

Depends on which site, and what you are driving. Watched one driver trying to park ran over his power post, then backed up and ran over his table. Ours was a straight pull-in, with a tree and deer sleeping under the tree at night. Had to be careful opening the door early in the morning.

Yes, if you can get reservations, Trailer Village is the only way to go! Shuttle bus will take you just about everywhere for free. You can easly spend a week, busy every day, and still not see half of everything. And in Trailer Village, you can get up fairly early and drive to the rim in just a few minutes to see the full sunrise. After it gets light, be sure to wait until the sun clears the rim. And if you are really lucky, you can get to hear one of the native americans pipe the sundown in the evening. We did stay in Wiliams one night, the campgrounds there are nice, and if you take it, the train ride is fun. On the train, you only get to stay at the canyon for a few hours, and it is about an hour ride each way. OK if you really like trains.
