Headed to NYC? Here is a guide on where to eat.

I've done a lot of travel to NYC for work and for those who aren't familiar with the city, it can be COMPLETELY overwhelming, especially if you are looking for a good place to eat. It seems that no matter what street you walk down, you'll find numerous restaurants and, as I've discovered on my business travel, it can be hard to find the great ones (and sometimes you need to plan ahead if you want to eat at the most popular spots).

So that said, when my wife and I travel, we do so for the food - and if we happen to see anything else along the way its a bonus. She wrote up this guide on places to eat in NYC for people going for the first time (or even those who live there). We were able to find some great local secrets and wanted to share. Enjoy!

For those who have their own spots, please feel free to add them in a post as we'd love to try them when we go back.

We appreciate the work that has gone into the OP's guide, however, it does not comply with the RV.Net Forum posting Rule:

You may not use the Open Roads Forum to either advertise or promote commercial endeavors. This includes direct posts, member name, URLS in your profile or signature, as well as, active links to other sites on the Internet.

I too grew up in that area! Anybody can go to Katz's deli or 1RockCenter or Grand Central Terminal's food court, but as a "local", I always go back to Chinatown - not as good as out here in 'Frisco, but very, very close. Let TripAdvisor be your guide if you're shy about new 'digs.

Burbman.

Any recommendations for off the main fare? Be in New York for 10 days and staying in Times square. Thanks.

Well, you've certainly convinced me to stay well away from New York.

This is about as far away from my RV lifestyle as I could imagine!

Hey..........you did not mention Ray's Pizza. Great place, great pizza.

Based on recommendations, we went to Grimaldi's (the location under the Brooklyn Bridge) and weren't that impressed - hence why we didnt add it to the list.

We've heard about Rays from some others so we'll put it on the list for our next trip out there. Thanks for the reco and the comment on the site!

I forgot to add in the original post, for those who like Old Fashioned's, the best I've ever had have been in NYC and the "Cubed" version they make at Del Posto tops the list. Its pricey at $20 but if you seek them out like we do, it's worth trying if you're in the city.
Here was our write up on it: http://www.weretherussos.com/the-worlds-best-old-fashioned/

There is also a "Smoked" Old Fashioned at Barr 44 in the Royalton Hotel (also in NYC). They take a piece of Cedar (?), light it and capture the smoke in a glass which they then place on top of the drink. The oils from the smoke settle on the drink and give it this amazing smoked flavor. This our second favorite Old Fashioned.

$75 for lunch and jackets required? Pretty pretentious for an RV forum. You can go anywhere in NYC and get good food, only the tourists overpay. I should mention I grew up there and lived there until I was 50.

Get off the avenues and go into the neighborhoods, that's where the good food is.

Hey, we'd love to hear what places we SHOULD be going and add to our list ๐Ÿ™‚
