I just came through today and it is a rough slow go for the most part.

It started North of Fort Worth and was a problem all the way to Temple where we got off.

The road is wearing out and the traffic was vary heavy for a Sunday.

Spend over an hour getting through the North side of Fort Worth, A lot of time was spent stopped or 5 mph or less.

Find anther route if you if you can.

There are not enough north/south interstates. Look at your atlas and you will notice lots of east/west, not much north/south. We live near Tyler, TX and the traffic is pretty heavy on Tx 69 from Tyler to Sulfur Springs---people travelling between I20 and I30. Needs an interstate there. All this puts pressure on I35, which would be heavy enough with the DFW to Austin traffic.

Yep I-35 a mess and has been for years. We have found it's just as easy to take US 69 south to 75 and head thru Dallas around noon. Last two years clear sailing, just have to pay attention but not a white knuckle drive as I-35.

IH-35 has been lousy for forty years. And only gets worse with each passing year. I drive 10-12k miles/month through Texas and surrounding states and wouldn't recommend this one. Ever.

If US-281 can work then it is far more scenic from the OK border to Mexico than 35/77 to the RGV. US-281 runs from Canada to Mexico across the US from North Dakota thru Texas. Always a good choice.

Lots of construction but we cruised right thru on Friday morning 10 days ago. Got on US 77 in Waco. Wouldn't want to do it in the dark with all the lane shifts.

We travel I-35 from north of Dallas to Georgetown both directions several times each year. Did last month and will again this weekend.
There is major construction on the near north side of Ft Worth that really can slow traffic. Lane shifts and temporary exit signs can really be confusing.
And they are doing complete rebuilding of large sections of I-35 from Hillsboro to south of Salado. Eventually they will rebuild all of it. The sections they have completed are great. The sections they are working on are variable as there is often temporary pavement around the areas under construction. But they do a very good job of keeping traffic moving (except Ft Worth). Barring an accident or lane realignment traffic typically moves at or above the posted limit. Sometimes scarily so.
