Just returned from Lake Ouachita State Park and had a pretty good Honeymoon. We fished allot and caught squat! Water level is down about 17ft. according to the locals and the water temperature has dropped dramatically. Still a beautiful park and very friendly folks. For those of you who do fish or hunt, the fishing license printer was down at the park. We had to call and do our licenses over the phone with Reserveamerica.com. The operator directed us to the web site where you can setup fishing and hunting licenses and have a copy emailed to your cell phone. We did get checked by the game warden and gave him the license numbers emailed to us and he was able to run the numbers and verify them.
We struggled with the truck pulling the trailer up the mountain. 25mph was all she'd muster the last mile climbing into or out of the park. The climb in is allot easier than the climb out, but still a struggle for our 2002 4.8l Silverado.
I chose camp site number 7, which is the largest site in the park. While nice, it's also the most blocked in by trees and trying to setup a satellite dish was more miss than hit. We could get signal until a breeze blew and no more satellite reception. We watched lots of DVD's. Over the air antenna reception was out too. Too far into the valley I guess and according to the net, the closest digital TV broadcast was 40 miles away. We did visit a local RV center between Mountain Pine and Hot Springs and picked up a wingman for the antenna, but it was a fail for the park. However, we picked up an additional 10 channels when we got home, so it works.
This was our first long trip with the new trailer and we had allot of learning to do. We had cell phone and 3g, sometimes 4g service so we were able to call and check in with family with no problems. We stayed 7 nights and quickly learned that laundry was an issue. You pack for 7 days but don't take into account that if your planning on doing more than one activity type a day, your looking at a minimum of 2 clothing changes for those days. Get up and fish, shower and go to dinner and your 7 days worth of clothes just turned into 5. There is a great laundromat at the corner of 227 and 270, AA Laundromat. Very clean and the locals say it's much more up to date than the one in Mountain Pine and the cheapest. Wash and dry, in and out in one hour.
All in all, we had a great time and it was a great start to our marriage. It was funny meeting a couple of park neighbors who were there for their anniversary. They told us that their honeymoon was a week in a tent 30 years ago and they would not have changed it for the world.
