Taking a trip from Michigan to Washington and Oregon for 6 weeks. Debating if I should haul kayaks and bicycles or not. Probably take bicycles for sure, wondering about kayaks?

Timely thread. Looking to do the same. Small class C, our kayaks are inflatable.

I think about the kayaks too a lot. If on a long trip and occasional kayaking I think I would rent one here and there vs hauling them around.

If you camp at most any of the Oregon State campgrounds you will want to have your bikes along. Most have excellent bike trails throughout the parks and beyond...

especially Ft. Stevens State Park.
Have a good trip.

If you're going up the Oregon coast, Devil's Lake in Lincoln City, OR is a great place to kayak.

If you plan on going through the Columbia River Gorge there are some great rivers both on OR and WA sides to use your Kayaks from the Dalles to Portland. Plenty of State and private campgrounds. Also the Old Highway on the OR side is good biking with water falls to visit.

How much kayaking do you do? If it's every day, I would take one. If only for a couple times during the trip, I'd leave it home and wait to do a trip for kayaking only.

When we did our trip from NC to Alaska and back we took our two mountain bikes and our two sea kayaks.
We paddled and pedalled every place we could and it was the trip of a lifetime.

We now don't normally go any place with out all of them.

WA and OR have lots of water, fresh and salt. Plenty of chances to use them.
