I am looking for a place to stay overnight anywhere from Cullman to Birmingham in Alabama. We will be heading south from Indianapolis to Florida so a location close to I-65 would be most beneficial. Thanks!!

We overnighted at Rickwood Caverns State Park, I-65, Exit 284. It is about the area you are looking. They only have a dozen or so sites. There is a cave to tour and a pool. It was a nice place to stop. They have a gate that closes at a certain time so you need a code.

we do not go through alabama on i65 without staying at gunter hill park, listed as montgomery. located 561 booth rd. a corps of engineers park which has a new section which has sewer hookups. reservations have to be 2 days in advance and only 2 walk in sites. i don't think there is a bad site, most are large sites.

Last time we were down that way, we overnighted with a bunch of tractor trailers and one other RV at a rest area. It wasn't bad, but it was rather warm. It took the TT a couple of hours to cool off with the fan running.

If your looking for a parking lot, there is a Bass Pro Shops right off of I-65 in Millbrook (same exit ependydad mentioned). They will let you stay overnight as well. If you need full hook ups, Oak Mountain is nice and will be a little quieter, it is a state park. The Hoover Met as mentioned earlier has a campground but it is basically in a parking lot. Both are out of your way by 20 minutes but the Oak Mountain option is cheaper. If I remember correctly, cheaper by about 15 bucks a night.

It has been 25 years since I lived in Birmingham, so I can't say how it has changed, but Oak Mountain state park was the first place that came to mind for me

Check out Cullman Campground which is about two miles off I-65 on Hwy 157. it is a good clean, quiet, safe overnight stop. The owners are very friendly and helpful. If you need to stock up there is a Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Denny's, Ruby Tuesday, BuenaVista Mexican (great place},McDonalds, Arby's, Burger King, Logan's Roadhouse, Zaxby's Plus many a fuel stations. Definitely one to consider. Enjoy your trip

Also the Hoover Met Stadium has also has campsites, and is a couple of miles off I-65. It's basically hookups in the stadium parking lot, but there is lots of dining and shopping in the area if you don't want to cook.

Both are good places. Just be aware it will take at least 20 minutes (probably more dependent on traffic) off your intended route.

RV park or Walmart? That area is pretty limited on RV parks. I was trying to find somewhere 1/2 way between Mobile and Huntsville and came up fairly empty handed.

We ended up staying at a Walmart in Millbrook, AL that gave us permission to overnight in the parking lot.
