Place to stay in Fargo ND?

There are not a lot of choices of places to stay for a couple of nights in Fargo ND.
Between state park fees and bad reviews on RVparkreviews.com...

Anybody have any real world experience with campgrounds in Fargo?

I see there are a couple of Walmarts that allow overnight stays, but I think I want to drop the trailer and do a bit of exploring while we are there.

PS. I'm planning my 40+ day 7,000 mile trip!

Here is a big heads up if you are headed west from Fargo. We stayed in Miles City Montana at the KOA. The point is if you get in that area there is a low underpass on main street and the warning signs are as you head down the slope. Just pay attention and look on Google earth and plan your route. If you arn't staying in the area it's not a problem.
Where are you going? I was just in the North West this summer and may have some tips.

Thanks,
we are actually headed South to Sioux Falls, then West to Mount Rushmore.

Depending on your needs, camping or just passing through...quite a few nice campgrounds, we've stayed at most and have no complaints. Fargo is a couple hours from the family farm here in Manitoba we go there often to go shopping. I prefer to stay in the box store parking lots and let the girls shop while I binge on TV.

If you see us, stop in and say hi. Hard to miss the awesome dodge with the screw pile decals on it.

We've stayed in the Fam Camp at the Air Force Base in Grand Forks but that is about 80 miles north. You may see if any campgrounds are close in MN.

Have you looked at Lindenwood Campground? It has some mixed reviews but it sounds like it has that important thing, location. We were in the area but made a small mistake in the place we stayed because it was further out of town. We stayed at Sheyenne Oaks Horse Camp-Rv. This would be the place if you were traveling with horses. It is on the edge of a big grasslands area.
