Planning trip to Northeast

Hey all, we did North Carolina to yellowstone last summer and had an amazing time. We have three kids (10,8,5). Looking to do a Northeast trip this summer.

Obvious places to go:

Niagara Falls
Acadia National Park
Ben and Jerry's Factory

Anywhere else up that way between New York and Maine that we NEED to do or should plan to be a part of the trip? For that matter, anybody stayed anywhere in New England that they loved? I've heard good things about Cape Cod for RV camping.

Thanks in advance!

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY is worth a trip all by itself, and it could fit in with a lot of different itineraries.

Since you have children, I think they'll enjoy Luray Caverns in Luray, VA. Definitely let them check out the LLBean store with its water features. Mom and Dad need to do Ne're Beach Family campground for no other reason than the Beach Lobster Farm Stand and for the kids, the water park.

Stop at Freeport Maine, it's a nice town.
L.L. Bean store.
The desert of Maine is just outside town.

I would visit Mystic Ct. and also visit Niantic ct. I would stay at Aces High campground in East Lyme. Within 10 miles will be Mystic Seaport, 3 Nascar short tracks, 2 Casinos, new walkway along the ocean in Niantic over 1 mile long. Golf course right down the street. Small town NE, stroll the town at night without worry.

We enjoyed a nice loop through NY and New England a couple of Springs back that included Cape Cod, Plymouth (The Rock, Plimoth Plantation and The Mayflower), LL Bean, Old Orchard Beach, Mystic, CT, Vermont Country Store and more including some great campgrounds and restaurants. http://www.snowbirdrvtrails.com/orangedot.htm. So much to see and do depending on your interests.

We live in SW Virginia and did that trip a couple of years ago with our then 9 and 6 year old daughters. We went to Luray, VA (Jellystone) to the caverns, then to Hershey Park (High Meadows Campground), then on to Brialee Campground in Ct (just to camp in the state), then on to Old Orchard Beach, ME. We stayed at the Nere Family Campground for 5 days and it was wonderful. 3 blocks from the beach, so we didn't have to drive or shuttle into town. It's about 25 mile to Portland. OOB is a wonderful old-timey beach town with an amusement park, lots of little shops, ice cream shops, little restaurants. The campground was across the road from the lobster pound where we purchased lobsters for dinner almost every night. They were $4.99/lb, steamed and ready to go.

The last time we did this trip, we had gone on up to Acadia, but we decided we didn't have to do that this time, so we just hung in OOB.

We had been to Acadia, so we didn't head on north this time. We headed south to Rhode Island (again, to get in that state) We stayed at the Ginny B Campground in Foster, RI. The kids enjoyed it. They had a fishing lake and a swimming lake along with a pool, a creek that the kids played in and a great little playground. Lots of kids and lots of seasonals, but it was still pretty good.

We headed on south to NYC and stayed at Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City. For being in the city, this place was pretty good. It's a large parking lot with water/electric hookups and pretty pricey, but to be so close and quick into the city, it was pretty convenient.

We the headed on south and stopped at a couple of overnight places before heading on to Hunting Island, SC for a week of beach fun.

Let me know if you want further info about any of these places.
