Any good family campgrounds in Prescott area? Looking for a longer term summer place to keep and head to with the family.

In Williams we stay at the Grand Canyon Railway RV park. Its next to the grand canyon railroad depot and hotel. RV guests can use the hotels indoor pool.

Around Williams there are 3 KOA's. We prefer the Circle Pines KOA over the others as its the only one thats wooded. There are a few other RV parks as well but GC Railway RV is by far the nicest. Even has an onsite kennel if you have pets you want to leave for the day while out and about.

Would Williams be too far for you? The parks there are family-tourist oriented.

How about Elk Pines in Heber? Show Low Lake Campground? Ponderosa RV Resort, Pinetop? HonDah Casino, Pinetop?

Good luck!

Elk Pines - I was very interested in, however their website says they are now 55+ which is what most in that part of state are. Show Low Lake campground I will look at, Love Fools Hollow, but they dont allow for more than 2 weeks. Williams we like, and its not too far. The KOA there is nice, but expensive for long term, and I have found nothing else close that has amenities.

We are looking for anywhere cooler, within 2 hours or so of Gilbert, and is family oriented. I prefer Pinetop area, but we have looked up near Flag, and specifically Munds. We also have looked at Cottonwood, even though that is much warmer than I would like. Just not a lot of family type places..... at least that I have found. Extended search to Prescott, saw a place called Point of Rocks, but thought there might be alternates up higher.

Can't speak to the other areas, but can comment on the Cottonwood area. It is hot during the day, but cools off in the evening.

The Thousand Trails has trees for shade, swimming pools, putt putt golf, shuffle board, pickle ball courts, basket ball hoops, swings etc... and is near the river.

Dead Horse Ranch State Park has fishing lagoons, lots of trails, river access and horse back riding on the park. The Quail loop has shade trees.

We liked the fairgrounds as there was lots of space. people keep their rigs there year round. Only problem is that you are away form town.

Are you wanting to rent a site and leave your RV set up for the summer?

Yes, exactly. If not all summer, a good portion of it. Perhaps split in two. But the idea is to enable my wife to drive the kids up on her own without towing and set up. Thinking we could get far more use.

You had another post recently in which you said you preferred Pinetop. Are you looking elsewhere now? Prescott can get hot in summer unless you are in the forest service campgrounds. Another 'cool' place is Flagstaff. Munds Park is just south of Flagstaff so you might try there or Greer's Pine Shadows in Flagstaff.

We've been through Prescott several times and parked our DP in relatives yard since they have three acres. However, knowing they were going to sell the house we've been looking at the various RV parks. Most are way too crowded and have too many permanent people with too much junk

The last time through Prescott we were only going to be there one night so we tried the fairgrounds. It was easy to get into, out of and parking was easy due to the large spaces. When we go back through again, we'll stay at the fairgrounds.red
