We are headed out to West Coast to see kids in Ca and want to stop in Quartzsite, Az for a few days. It will be our first trip in 5th wheel toyhauler, 39ftter, looking for best place to land in Quartzsite first. Like idea of boondocking or would it be best to stay in park and get local info first? We enjoy riding our sxs, so wanting to ride that area as well. We leave No Fla in Mid Oct headed west. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated, and I am sure we will learn as we go. Thanks

Still 95 in Yuma, so might still be a little early to stay that far south - Utah will still be nice.

Millions go to Quartzsite! If you're with a group of friends there's lots to do other than look for bargains. There's 4-wheeling, boating, hiking, geocaching, jam sessions, potlucks, chili cook-offs, breakfasts outside around a campfire and nightly story-telling around the same fire. We've enjoyed movies played on the side of someone's rig, travelogues, classes and discussions on various things, solving problems on someone's rig, helping to do a needed project, making pizza in a handmade brick oven. Our two weeks go by fast re-connecting with friends.

Forget Quartzite and get over to CA or UT or anyplace. Overnight there is you have to but no place many of us would spend any time.

Leaving Quartzsite even as we speak. We stopped to get Silly Al's pizza- yum.
The thing about Quartzsite is that its really fun in January and Feb when its a beehive of activity. If you have never been there, and go now, you will likely wonder what all the fuss is about.
Oh, and it is 93* here today
If you want to boondock, here is a spot that you will fit and is easy to get to

We stayed at Holiday Palms our first trip and 88 Shades our second trip. Holiday Palms was a little better IMHO.

There are miles and miles of BLM land for dry camping. On this site I have read reports of various mobile services such as Honey Wagons.

In addition I have read here of theft of propane tanks, generators, and batteries, so you should make sure those things are well secured.

We will take I-10 to Quartzside as that is our planned first stop. Thanks

Sorry edited the first post with a map - I'd save the I-10 for the return trip as it will be cold and much of what is available now will be gone, in the Winter Cold.

With your Toy you would likely enjoy Colorado and many of the 4X4 trails, along with Moab and the many opportunities there.Often even the High mountain trails take some time to get snow so you might get lucky - IMHO - there are no trail Like the Trails in Colorado for 4X4'ing, except for maybe Moab.

http://www.cotrip.org/map.htm#/default?StillCameraId=10829 - move around the CDOT map to see the weather before you go - From my experience you need to get North First not later - we have driven across Colorado as late as Thanksgiving with no issue - Need to really keep you eyes OPEN, as the weather will change in a Flash.

If Denver/Golden is not to your liking you could come in further south on RT 160 or 50 and get across some beautiful Country before getting to More beautiful country in Utah.

Son lives in Colorado and they have already had the first real snow - 8" - just outside Denver - only lasted til noon but still would not be fun to drive in. It's 70 now in Denver and 95 in Yuma so - not where you want to be yet.

Look it over - think about it and see if I can be of any help.

Sounds great, Best of Luck,

How long ?

Any other Mission - or Just to get to Cali?

Sounds like you are doing the I-10 run?

Little more info would Help.

As things are really slow this AM - couple of thoughts - Heading out so I guess you will be coming back, before the dead of winter?

If so I'd look hard at saving Quartzsite for then, as October November are a great time to Visit the Utah National and State Parks.

Maybe something like this - Another way to get to California.

Just some food for thought.
