We are Virginia residents but spend about 1/2 the year in Florida. Can we register our Class A motorhome in Florida without becoming Florida residents?

My DH thinks Florida is THE PLACE to live!! I do not have Medicare yet, so my health insurance quotes have been wwwaaayyyy more expensive than Virginia. But I WAS surprised that my MH insurance was more expensive here in Virginia than Florida.

When the market took a dump and people lost their jobs, Florida had to make money some how. One way they did was to raise the vehicle registration rates for first time registrations. Also the cost of vehicle insurance is high based upon the location of where you live, older drivers and the amount of auto thefts. That's just the way it is, I've lived in Florida for 31 years and if it were not for my DW, I'd find a cheaper place to live.

We used MYRVMAIL for a time..but I really just don't need it. I can use the RV park if I truly need a mailing address for Florida. We've owned the RV since 2011, no financing..sales tax paid awhile ago. My state and county has a personal property tax..that is outrageously expensive. So anything like a motorhome, I get hammered for in taxes.

X2 for the hills of GA being more and Fla has no deduct on windshield replacement. Need to have owned the RV more than six months or you will be charged sales tax.

My brother registered and insured the vehicles he kept in Florida, in Florida, and those he kept in Michigan, in Michigan, while maintaining domicile in Michigan. But he also had physical addresses in each place.

he was resident in both states, domiciled in one. Legally they are different statuses, which you might learn should you choose to reside part of the year in a state that decides six weeks or six months makes you a resident.

We only spend 5 to 5.5 months in Florida, 3 month or so in our home state (Illinois), and the rest traveling. We don't own property in any state.

That being said, one consideration for registering RV's in Florida is your insurance rates. I would suspect it would be much higher.

Yes..we actually use the RV park as an address, we just want to remain residents of Virginia. Or least I do. My dh would rather be a Florida resident..and never leave there. LOL

We didn't own property in Florida but we did have a mailing address. The dealer had no problem registering our rv in Florida though we were residents of Maryland. Same with our jeep. The rv was purchased in Florida, the jeep in Maryland. Subsequently, we became Florida residents to save on state income tax.

I am a resident of Idaho and our motorhome is registered in FL, but we do own property there. We do not reside there any portion of the year, all our property is rental units. The problem will be if it is financed, getting the financial institution to allow the title to be transferred to Florida.
