Rhode Island Trip

Good afternoon all,

I am going to Rhode Island for a week camping. We are doing the following.

Trolley tour of New Port with 2 Mansion Tours
Day trip to Martha's Vineyard
Day trip to Block Island

What else would any of you recommend to do?

Any help would be great

I know you stated that you're leaving Sunday, but if you get here early enough the Newport Folk Festival is this week end here's a link http://www.newportfolk.org/lineup/ also go to projo.com The Providence Journal Newspaper website they have a good article of week end and beyond events.

Eats...Post Office Cafe in East Grenwich, RI... Simply can't be beat!

Do a Google search for `Rhode Island tourism' and read what the experts recommend. I recommend taking the bus tour of Martha's Vineyard.
Note in Edgartown how the beautiful little town is spoiled by all of the overhead wires. We had lunch at the Wharf restaurant. The town can be busy so don't wait until noon to have lunch. There might be a line.

Love good food? Try Abbott's Lobster in the Rough, right on the waterfront in Noank, CT.

A bit further south is Groton - we liked the National Submarine Museum. For dinner there you can't beat Paul's Pasta. It's a small place and it WILL be busy. That's because the food is excellent.

When are you going....Big hot air balloon festival on the 24th July I believe.

Lots of museums nearby.

Tons of history in nearby New Bedford, MA (Whaling) and Fall River, MA (Battleship Cove)

Casinos in CT

You name it...it's within an hours drive!

It is just the Wife and I. We are staying at Ashaway Resort in Bradford, RI. Love wine, Love good food, Love Beer!!!

Newport is good for a day along with the mansions. Narragansett is nice to eat seafood, lay on the beach, ride your bikes and walk around a little. The lighthouse near the ferry to Block Island is nice, they surf right there if your of a mind, good eats all around there too. You can easily drive to the Mystic area of CT.

Where are you staying? Kids in tow or just adults?

Do you like wine? Try Sakonnet Vineyards.

As you mention, Newport Mansions is good. Can't believe they were just summer cottages. Also there, Cliff Walk, "10 mile" ocean drive, Fort Adams.

Attend a Waterfire In Providence (Check Schedule)
Patriot Place (If you are staying at Normandy Farms)

Iggys Doughboy Doughboy and Chowder House

Chelo's (Small RI only chain)
One of the many seafood shacks. Local to me, Flo's and Evelyn's comes to mind.
