There are a lot of other RV destinations in the immediate area. There is no reason for anyone on this forum to even consider Palisades. I lived in Albuquerque from about 1970 to 1990 and moved away because I could see that the city was losing what made it a unique place; it was becoming just like everywhere USA. We were last there last October to visit friends and see the Balloon fiesta (again). That was great and I can confirm that there are plenty of places to get the best Southwestern Cuisine on the planet. I don't call it Mexican food because up here in Oregon, we have Mexican food made by people from Old Mexico. While it is pretty good for what it is, it can't compare to what is cooked up in New Mexico. In 1977, we lived in a nice mobile home park in the northeast part of town. It was a little rough around the edges, but that was what we could afford. There was nothing out there and we had a great view of the Sandia Mountains. Then the park started to go down hill. In December of that year a drunk lowrider lost control of his car and ran off the road and hit my new Honda station wagon so hard it spun around. Took out my mailbox too. Hit and run. When I went out to see what all the noise was, the lowrider returned and tried to run me down in the street and drove off again. While the police officer was talking to me and writing out a report, the idiot lowrider came back. He saw the cop and sped off with the officer in persuit. There was a wild car chase and the lowrider crashed his car into the front yard of a neighbor and knocked down a tree. The officer arrested the driver, but his companions fled the scene and hid somewhere in the neighborhood. Apparently, some people at the crash site knew the driver and started to harass the arresting officer while he was trying to contain the driver who was attempting an escape from the police car. Backup had not arrived yet. The police officer was forced to draw his firearm as he his warnings failed to stop the advance of the menacing crowd. The arrested driver managed to break free and pushed the officer and the gun went off and a bullet struck someone in the crowd. Last I remember anything about the guy that wrecked my new car and cause the ruckus, was seeing his name listed in the Albuquerque Journal as a survivor of the big riot at the prison in Santa Fe. In short order, we bought a house in town and sold the mobile home for more than we paid for it. Once apon a time there were some mobile homes built real solid and kept their value longer. OK, so short story long... In 1990 we saw how things were going and got a transfer with the company. So, the takeaway here is that I avoid staying at places that have low rent-long term tennents. I am not talking about the parks that have snow-birds or working people that are transient. Anyone will know when you drive through and know when to keep driving down the road.
