september trip

DH and I and our 34' MH with toad are planning a trip for September. Leaving from near Tappahannock Va, going to Charleston, then St Augustine, across to Destin Fl then over to Vicksburg Ms then across to Savannah, up to Myrtle Beach, then back home. It's planned to last about a month. We are flexible. Hope to avoid as much of the Interstates as possible. Any suggestions on any leg of the 'voyage' as to which roads we might follow? CGs to stay in? Have several reservations made (state parks mostly) but very open to suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to share.

We stayed at North Beach RV in St Augustine...you can walk across the highway and be on the beach. Very nice. And if you have time in St Augustine, take the trolley (hop on/off...best way to see everything in town)

WE love Huntington Beach State Park which is south of Myrtle Beach. Nice sites,some FHU most water and electric. You can walk to the beach.They have great nature programs and it's cheaper than most commercial parks.

Coming home from MB try the AF Camp at Fort Fisher, then up to Atlantic Beach then cross to go up to Swansboro and take the ferry to Ocracoke, ferry again a day or two later up to Hatteras, then Hatteras, Kill Devil Hills and up to Chesapeake.
That region is beautiful and temperate in the fall.
Ocracoke is quaint and not crowded after Labor Day, Hatteras is a little busier, KDH and the aerial activities from just visiting the Wright Brothers memorial, to hang gliding, parasailing and other similar activities at Kitty Hawk Kites can easily fill a couple days.

For the Florida Leg, from St Augustine, you might try FL 20 to Gainesville then FL 26 to Fanning Springs. There is a good camp there, Suwanee River Bend right on the river and close to Fanning Springs SP and Manatee Springs SP is close and a better park. Then take US 19 to Perry FL and get on US 98 west which will follow the coast line all the way west in the state. In Port St Joe there is a very nice, but old park, Indian Pass RV. It is a bit off the main road but is right on miles of white sand beach.
Continue west to Pensacola when YOu will have to get on I10 for awhile. Azalea Acres In Robertsville AL near Gulf Shores is a good park. We generally take US 98 to Hattiesburg which is supposed to have a good state park, we have not used and then switch to 49 to Jackson which is just east of Vicksburg.
This is scenic but not fast once you get on US98. But it is quite scenic going thru a number of small towns. The state park at Port St Joe is still being rebuilt after storm damage.

Hit 52 off I 95 at Florence, Exit 169, to Charleston. We stayed at a KOA in Ladson...Hope you have a toad. since it is the first leg of your adventure heading over to I 95 and heading don to SC should be easy.

We don't plan every campground when we have a flexible schedule, although we will reserve state and COE parks ahead of time as they are among our favorite destinations. Private parks are normally our last choice, having gaps where we can wing it allows us time to search for more ideal settings to RV. Even with pandemic still lingering we can find availability in a private RV park a few hours before we arrive. Kids back to school, summer heat dissipating, less crowding in tourist areas, sure sounds like a great time of RVing ahead.
