Tell me about Cape Cod

We're arriving noon on a Thursday in our Class C. Looking to do beaches with our kids (10, 8, and 5) and enjoy P-Town and anywhere else that we should see. Staying at Nickerson State Park that night, then have the whole next day.

Looking specifically for ideas about parking in Provincetown and which beaches to go to. Anything else we need to see in our 36 hours in Cape Cod?

Could you rent a car for the day? I know it's an added expense but that will give you so much more freedom.

I know Uber works in Chatham MA, My son and has GF used it for transportation from a wedding we attended back to Atlantic oaks campground.

There is a campground right in P-town called Coastal Acres. They may let you park there for the day. You can easily walk into town from there or Cab/Uber.

There is also an RV lot in town at the corner of Shank Painter Rd and US 6.

This is what I was referring to when I said too many things to explain to young kids. I took my kids to P-town once. Big mistake (in the 1980s that is).

It's changed a HUGE amount since the 80s. I was there last year and it's turned back into a very fun place. You're worried about having to explain to kids? Bet they already know all about it. And you'd be surprised at how young. If the OP is worried about late night parties, then go during the day. Be prepared for some odd-ball things but ENJOY.

Awesome. The nice people at Atlantic Oaks suggested we take the bus up to P-town and back and leave the rig there for the day. Cost seems good and it might be a lot easier assuming the ride isn't too long.

One last thing, we want to go to a baseball game that Friday night (July 8th). Looks like there are five of them that night in the cape cod league. Any better than the others? We'll be leaving and driving around Boston after the game, so location leaving the Cape would be best.

Spent many, many summer vacations at the cape and in Ptown. If you take 6A into town and turn up the road that goes to the Pilgrim Monument, there is street parking up there, which may work for you as not everybody knows about it. If there isn't anything up there, at the end of the street there is a big lot where people park with rigs. Bring a fat wallet. Prices have gone through the roof over the years. Lots of NYC people/Boston people/ gays with expendable incomes stay in Ptown and prices are high. We stayed in N. Truro with friends at Corn Hill Beach for many years as well as camping there when I was a kid. There is no place like the Cape. I also recommend Arnold's for great seafood, as well as other items for the rest of your family. It's always busy, but don't let the crowd scare you away - they know how to move people through.

I stayed at Nickerson last year, and you need a week to properly explore it..... Hell I still feel like I missed things. P-town is neat and we spent the whole day there and did a whale watching trip that my 4yr old really enjoyed. the National Seashore is worth a stop, Martha's Vineyard was a whole day and completely worth it, and while not on the Cape, Plymouth is right down the road and good for another whole day. Be prepared to see a lot less than you think you will accomplish because traffic is a nightmare everywhere. There is literally one road in, and one road out of the Cape and they are constantly packed.

I also forgot.... Good luck parking a C class in Ptown. It was hard enough finding room for my F250. You have no idea how many times I heard "I don't have any spots big enough for that" from the people that run the pay lots.... This happened to me all over the Cape. You may want to consider renting a car if you don't have a toad.

It has been many years since we explored the mid-cape and P-town area but we do take day trips to the canal for lunch. (only 1 1/2 hours from home) Mid-week is the best time to travel to and on the Cape.

Crowe had some great suggestions. Coast Guard beach is considered one of the best in the area. Park at the Visitors Center and take the free tram to the beach. The lighthouse at Chatham (on the "elbow" of the Cape) gives a fantastic view of the ocean and has parking that should handle a mid-sized C rig. It might be an interesting ride past it going to/from the beach. I don't know if you can still walk down to the sand from there.

Is does seem that if you are going to the Cape a ride to P-town completes the trip. Rt. 6 is good road ALMOST into the town. The kids might like to climb the 252 feet to the top of Pilgrim Monument at P-town. The view from there is fantastic.

Provincetown is a small and old town. The streets are narrow and parking is extremely limited.

You mentioned family, fair warning in case you aren't aware; Provincetown is a very popular gay community and caters to that lifestyle with a lot of nightclubs. The party also spills onto the streets and sidewalks. Not saying anything negative, just letting you know.

Hi, We have stayed many times at Atlantic Oaks. Its a great central location. We like it as you can get on the bike path from the campground eliminating having to drive to it.

You can walk to Arnold's from the campground. (2 buildings away) I believe Arnold's has land lover food also.

Maybe it was just bad luck but our worst meal ever was from P town, I will never eat there again... especially the tourist trap restaurants close to the dock area.
