Hi!

Looking to spend 5 nights this next week in Tx Hill Country - somewhere around Johnson City. We are looking at the Roadrunner RV Park in Johnson City, but thought I would kick this out there for input. Does anyone have suggestions / recommendations on some nice RV Parks / scenic areas, etc. my son and I can go to relax for a few days and decompress?

thanks

Thanks for all the advice - much appreciated. We decided to go to Johnson City and hang around for a week. Roadrunner Park is on a hill and I talked to them earlier - said no problem with flooding, etc.

We were in an RV rally at the Fredericksburg RV park last month. It is a nice, clean park with all pull-thru spaces. We drove by the KOA which others have mentioned and it looked nice and not actually in town. You definitely need to call after the recent flooding.

Went up to Fredericksburg one weekend (hoping to get some of their peaches but couldn't find any being sold) and enjoyed the wineries but it wasn't what I expected actually for wineries. Seems they are all local (roadside) places, with no actual tours, which sold and let you sample wines for a price. I think the one that really caught our attention was a place called "Fat Ass". Named after their donkey, lol. But do take the drive through Johnson City and visit the ranch in your car (It's no walking tour for sure).

I stopped by a campground on Lake LBJ, looked nice, on a point with a large "rock" on the point, NE corner of lake IIRC.

The roadrunner rv park in johnson city is fine. there are several good rv parks west of johnson city all the way to fredericksburg. one in stonewall, now and looks good.
There is a huge flower farm between stonewall and fredericksburg that's just interesting to walk through and browse and has a snack shack, etc.
and fredericksburg has the National WW2 Pacific War museum that's chock full of stuff that might interest your son.

You might want to call the parks you have in mind. That area was hit hard with flooding a week or so ago.

A couple of years ago we stayed in the only RV park in Johnson city, so it must be the one you mentioned, because it was the only place we could find. We were on the very back row and could see deer and cattle come up to the fence every day. Turned out we very much enjoyed our stay there and would do it again.

Lady Bird Johnson Park in Fredericksburg is a nice municipal park, and very kid-friendly.

How old is your son? And what kind of activities do the two of you like?

Have been to the hill country around Fredericksburg every year for many many years. Lots of scenic areas there and all over the hill country (Marble Falls, Burnet, Llano, Mason, Kerrville, Bandera, etc). And although we always pass thru Johnson City on the way, we have never stopped there.

However, we really like the Kerrville Schreiner Park in Kerrville as our RV destination. A very large park (formerly a state park) with a relatively small number of RV sites, so it is not very crowded and sites are not side by side. And deer often roam thru your RV site. But that is quite a ways from your destination.

we also stayed at the KOA outside Fredericksburg. Close enough to town but not in town.

This may not be helpful, but I can say that we have stayed many times at the KOA in Fredericksburg which is out toward Johnson City--about five miles east of Fredericksburg. That, of course, is where we would go to spend a few days in the Hill Country.

We have never stayed in Johnson City, so cannot make any evaluation of that RV park.

There are several new RV parks between KOA and Johnson City, so you have many choices. I'm sorry that I do not have information of these new RV parks.

Pretty much everything along the rivers has been flooded out.. might take a few weeks to clean it all up.
