The Palms RV Resort in Yuma

Hello Folks:
Will be heading down to Yuma this winter for the first time. Have looked at RV Park reviews and also Good Sam to try narrow down the options.
I was wondering if anybody has any personal experience with The Palms RV Resort?
Also how about the Las Quintas Oasis and the Shangai-La Resort? I seen where these two are close to I-8 which may have more highway noise.
We don't have any pets so that's not an issue. Would like a park that will have exercise ammenities and GOOD space for the 5th wheel and my truck. Don't want any "sardine" parking parks.
Your actual personal experiences will definitely help.

Cocopah is a nice park. The speedway is not in or close to the park. It's on the reserve South of Yuma some distance away and close to the Casino which is also South of town.

Not anymore. It was bought out by a young couple about 2 years ago and they are personally managing it. There has been a huge improvement in the park condition and the whole attitude of everyone, since they bought it out.

All the parks you mentioned have good size lots with room for your 5er and truck. The Palms is closer to the majority of Marine air traffic. Las Quintas is the best of the three dollar for dollar. You might want to have a look at Sunridge RV Park. Huge spots and lots going on. A few years ago they had management problems but not any more. The current management have the residents best interests at heart and work really hard to make your stay enjoyable.I think sites are $340.00 per month. The park mentioned in Welton is owned by the same people as Sunridge.

Well they are more 'expensive' to other parks in the Yuma area.

There are others but you do pay for what you want and get.

We looked in Yuma and though a couple of the parks were nice, they are VERY expensive, IMO. We went 18 miles east of the foothills in a small agriculture town of Wellton on I-8 and the park was as nice as any we visited in Yuma and less than ½ the price. Our park has all the amenities one would want, larger than normal sites and yet we have the peace and quiet that we wanted. We are avid ATVers and that area is great for riding.

The Palms is very nice but has been expensive for years...but you pay for what you want.

travel is real expensive int he US for Canadians this season. 5 years ago the Canadian dollar was worth 10 cents more than the US, now is 25 cents less. that is a 35% increase in cost due to exchange alone. It will surely discourage some. Even going into Mexico does not necessarily help. A lot of RV parks down there have acquired the nasty habit of pricing themselves in US dollars.

Since Yuma is mainly Canadians from what I see, raising prices could be bad for them.

We have stopped here many a years on our way South. Never stayed an entire season....but if I were to stay in Yuma for a season this is the place I would stay. Great clean park with good security and lots to see and do. I hear its getting expensive though.

The comment about in the path of jets on the West side of Yuma.

I suspect he meant the East side of Yuma.

There is a Marine base on the East side of Yuma proper. And yes there is a fair amount of traffic of fighter jets going to and from the Barry Goldwater bombing range on the far South East side of Yuma.

Most of the activity is during the daytime.

Most of us that live in Yuma do not complain and I call the noise the sound of freedom. My self I enjoy watching the planes. We get to see a large variety of our freedom fighters in action.

As far as I know there are no civilians forced to live in Yuma. A few Marines Yes.

Sardines are the nature of the game. One reason I only spent 2 seasons in Az before heading south. If I am going to be cheek to jowl i would rather be on a beach. Mind you if golf is your game, it can be hard to beat. Not familiar with this park, but Yuma is packed with snowbirds each season. Maybe this year not so much with the US dollar so high.

Our friends stayed at The Palms and loved it. They have someone posted at the gate and when we visited we had to tell them we were seeing "The Jones's in space # --"....Very safe. However, be aware it's right under a flight path and the jets are noisy. I think most of the parks on the west side of Yuma are in the path. We had a BBQ at their site and at times had to quit talking for the noise.
