Tippecanoe State park, Indiana

We are currently camping at Tippecanoe State park this weekend (right now) (North of Logansport, Indiana). This is our first time ever at this park.

My wife and I have made it our mission to camp in every state park and recreational park in Indiana. We had a 4 day weekend free, so selected Tippecane this time. We have only 8 more parks to go, and after several years of attempting to reach our goal, we are almost there.

I am giving this little back ground information because, I'd like to report, this campground is probably one of the nicest ones we've been to in Indiana. The camp sites are pretty large, and it appears every one has shade some time of the day. The trees make wonderful canopy.

Obannan, in Southern Indiana is 100% under trees also, but the sites are much, much smaller just for comparison.

Another thing about Tippecanoe is, it's along a river. This morning already, we've seen two canoe rentals come through the campground and another load of inner tube type floaties all piled in a caged trailer. Quite obvious it's a local canoe rental company.

Like most state parks in Indiana, there are not full hook-ups here, but the sites all have electric. They also have a horseman's campground and a youth campground (for group camping)

Of all the Indiana State run campgrounds, I give this one a 10 out of 10! Also, from what I can see, it looks like every site is occupied, lots of kids and dogs, but in spite of that, its really quiet here, and it was dark last night, very, very few outside awning or camper outside lights on. Had it not been for the trees, you probably could have seen stars easily.

The only negative thing to report ... you will not get a television Satellite signal because of the trees.

So having a great time... see ya camping!

Lots of trails at the park. We drove out to the very end, saw the group cabin campground areas too. Drove through the horseman's campground, saw all the horses. Didn't attempt to climb the fire tower though. Last fire tower we climbed we were in PAIN for days (getting too old for stuff like that). Had fun. We were there Sunday night ... only a small handful of campers left after a packed week-end. Got out and walked around after dark, finally found some holes in the trees to see the stars! It was so dark, I couldn't tell where the road was and the grass was. The nats were heavy though, make it unpleasant. They came through with a fogger on the back of a pick-up truck. Hadn't seen one of those in years! Overall it was a wonderful visit!

Thanks for the report. We'll put that on our go list. We love OBannon also, but our favorite IN SP so far is Turkey Run.

I believe Tippecanoe is also the nearest state park to the annual sandhill crane migrations in the spring and fall at Jasper-Pulaski.

just there a few weeks ago- it is a very nice park. went there with our camping club and they all liked it a lot- first time for all of them. we have slowly been introducing them to the "other" state parks that are not an hour form Elkhart. the ones by us are awesome, just need to show them what's out there. LOL. headed to Mississinewa this coming weekend. happy travels- hope you get them all in.
