For what its worth info - you might not know trip advisors has reviews of campgrounds. In my opinion they are best place to find the most reviews of campgrounds. Rv park reviews is good but I find better at trip advisor.

Wow, I checked this thread in part cause I'm looking for reviews of a camps in an area, but couldn't recall the name of the site; it's rvparkreviews.

After reading the generous, thoughtful, and measured efforts of docj to resolve a review complaint, I'm even a bigger fan of rvparkreviews.

Good grief, what more could docj or anybody else do in a similar circumstance to sincerely investigate a complaint?

Joe:

It's never been a secret that RVParkReviews is a private business. So is TripAdvisor, a business that happens to be many times larger. So are almost all of the major forum and review sites.

Since you have refused to provide me the information I need in order to determine what really did happen to your review, I can only assume that, for whatever reason, you have no real interest in resolving the matter only in trying to discredit RVParkReviews. I'll let others judge for themselves whose side of this discussion they wish to believe.

Joel, I am still confused with my situation. I did the review, not my first one by any means, and sent it in. Soon I got back a message that it was received and would be reviewed, then in a day or so I go an email saying my review had been approved and was now posted. Then a few days later, a second administrator, could have been you or perhaps not you, decided to delete my review.
Strikes as odd that the first administrator thought my post was fine and posted it, then another comes by and deletes it. Sounds to me as though the different administrator at RVparkreviews.com don't agree on what the criteria needs to be to post on the site.
Do different administrators have more authority than others? Can any administrator delete what another administrator has already approved? It would appear to me that the site needs to get their administrators on the same page, too many cooks trying to stir the same pot of soup, it sounds like to me. If my review was unacceptable, then the first administrator should have rejected it, not approved and posted it.

But you have given all of us good information in that RVParkreviews.com is a private business, which you are a representative of that company, as an administrator and which you promote on this forum. Plus now everyone that has been following this now knows, that when they are reading the reviews, they are getting a filtered view of what the actual campers said or not getting to see the reviews at all.
This is/was a good subject and I for one have a much better understanding of this private business that sells advertisements on their site.

Docj, thanks for looking into why my review was deleted after being approved. I received an email saying it was ok. Then three days, give or take, it was removed by someone. As far as I am concerned, the matter is finished, as I no longer plan to waste my time giving an honest review of a run down campground. If my review had not been accepted when it was first sent in by an email to me from rvparksreview, I would feel better about the matter. No I never received anything other than the original email which is a moot point now.
Thanks again for you time on this.

I also quit using the rvparksreview after my issue... since I now know by my experience that valid input is not posted, I can't trust any of the reviews.

I'm sorry that you feel that way; all that was asked of you was that you provide a review of the park in addition to recounting the bad experience you had there. No one was asking you to omit the incident, just to provide additional information about the park that other RVers might find useful few of them are likely to have the same bad experience. We don't think that is an unreasonable request. If you should wish to rejoin our community we would welcome your reviews.

Joe:

I couldn't check on your review because you didn't respond to my request for the RVParkReview user name under which the review was submitted; as far as I can tell you aren't using "Joe B" as your user name there. If you provide the name I will be able to tell you (privately, if you wish) what happened to your review. You can PM me the name if you wish to retain your privacy.

As I said in my previous post, reviews are not censored just because they are negative. You can believe that or not, as you wish, but it is the truth. What happened to your review is very odd and I would like to be able to track it down.

I use both and a number of time places that looked good on RV Park Reviews had bad reviews on tripadvisor.com and I was glad I checked.

I do find reviews that are based on time of year and know that a place is going to be different in some respects during the peak summer months than it may be at other times of the year.

Tripadvisor.com and Yelp are my primary sources for travel information. In California I also rely on Tom Steinstra's books which far surpass anything eles in print or online.

We are staying in Yuma & I just did a little comparison and Trip Advisor is a joke. They show 15 campgrounds with 99 reviews - RV Park Reviews has 38 campgrounds and well over 500 reviews.

Where would you go for information?

I found the review that you are referring to. In its 338 words (according to Microsoft Word) there were less than 10 devoted to a description of the park. The remainder recounted the incident which you have already described. Our policy is that incidents such as this can be included in a review but should not be its principal focus. Because your review was primarily a recounting of this incident, it was deferred.

However, when reviews are deferred for this reason an email is sent to the address associated with the account and the author is given an invitation to revise and resubmit the review. The emails are automatically generated by the system so there is no possibility that it wasn't sent. I show no record of you having resubmitted this review. Did you receive the email? Do you still have access to the email account on file with RVParkReviews?

Out of respect for your privacy, I did not reprint your review here, but I would be glad to send it to you by PM if you don't have a copy on your computer.

The issue I have with RV Parkreviews, is that they pre-review posts and censor ones that they feel like so you get the website administrators opinion, not the public's complete opinion. .

As one of the administrators of RVParkReviews I can say without hesitation that reviews are ONLY edited to make them more readable or to remove profane or other offensive content. I strongly disagree with your statement that "you get the website administrators opinion". One of the fundamental rules for admins is that they never should change the meaning of a review.

I encourage you to provide evidence, if you have it, of a review that was substantially altered and/or whose meaning was substantially changed by an administrator.

I'll see if I can find it in my archives, but last summer, we called an RV park to see if they accommodated big rigs... they said yes, we got there and they put us in a spot would have been impossible to exit from , but told us that they would not rent the space out in front of us, thus allowing an easy exit. The park was about 30% occupied. About an hour later, they put a camper in the spot that they said they would leave empty. I went to the office and asked what was going on... the staff person that had made the prior promise to keep the site empty for our egress said she changed her mind. When I said we planned to leave about 6 a.m. she said we would just have to wait until the people on the other site left. I talked to the people on the other site, and they decided that they would move.
I wrote this up in a review, I also stated that the power and water pressure were good, the bathrooms very clean, grounds maintained, but I received a message back saying the review was not being posted because the rude and inept management issues were not pertinent.
If you do a search on these forums, you will find many others that have had similar censorship of their posts.

I have had negative reviews posted on rvparkreviews with no issues. Part of it had to do with inept employee assigning me an already occupied site, as well as some fairly ignorant residents that went in unedited.

I use RV Park Reviews for a main source of reference and think it is the best resource on the Internet. I also have submitted both good and bad reviews of parks we've stayed at and my reviews have always been posted. The one time I thought my review hadn't been posted turn out to be a mistake on my part as I had typed in the wrong year of our stay and the review ended up in older reviews of the park. When I asked the moderators about my review not showing up, my mistake was discovered, they corrected the error for me, and placed my review in the correct sequence of the reviews. I truly don't understand all the bad mouthing of the RV Park Reviews website.
