Walmart camping

Been here in Newport,Oregon and have noticed just how many people camp at the Walmart!! Signs all over saying..."No Overnight Parking"
I see the same motorhomes/trailers and 5th wheels sitting there for 2-5 days with their slides out....patio rugs out and looks like they are planning on staying for a long time. Even went by there yesterday and guy had his slide out on his 5ver...unhooked like the others and he was washing it!!
Just a rant!

We've "camped" overnight at WalMart several times on cross country trips. We always check the AllStays app to see if there's camping allowed, then call the Manager to request permission. It's always been granted and we usually have a quiet evening - after purchasing supplies/food at the WalMart. Seems to me it's a win/win for both us & WalMart. But we have been a bit disconcerted to see the signs that say absolutely no overnight parking in some of the places we called and received permission. My guess is 4X4Dodger is correct about the signs being just in case they need to ask someone to leave.

It's really none of anyones business except those staying there and WAL MART. It is after all PRIVATE PROPERTY.

but it is commercial property used by the public, therefore subject to city/county ordinances, like No Overnight Parking.

Is no doubt private property however not likely owned by Walmart but some developer. Its likely a public parking lot and some are patrolled by the LEO's and vehicle codes are inforced.

It thought it was funny when I saw people setting up camp in local Walmart parking lots. It resulted in laws prohibiting overnight parking at all.

Exactly, the city our local Walmart now has regulations about RV parking. There was always 4 or 5 old beat up RV's parked there some even leaked fluids, god only know what. You see the same ones there now but there only there for 1 day. Nothing wrong with spending the night there but living there is another story. There was even a large diesel pusher parked there for several months. It never moved no one was ever around it. My guess they were using the parking lot for storage.
Opie431....any rules saying to NOT park are usually city ordinances. Every city has different rules.

hotpepperkid......I can't imagine "storing" a DP at Walmart....maybe they're waiting for someone to destroy it so they can get insurance money!!!!!!!

It was there every day in the same spot for weeks and weeks. I drove by there everyday

Well, folks, this Walmart Thread has been quite a ride.
However, it has outrun its usefulness. What we have now consists for the most part of the following:

Members reposting their original posts.

Other members counting and analyzing those posts.

New Members wanting to know what all the fuss is.

Posts that are totally off-topic.

Trollers posting something inflammatory just to get a rise out others.

Besides that, my editing and deleting finger is tired.

Thank you all for responding to this thread over the last year.
May it rest in peace. And so may I.

That was in 2005. Things have not changed much.
