Which campground on ocean in NC, SC

About to finally buy a TT & want to stay at an oceanfront campground within 6 hours of Asheville, NC where we live.
We considered outer banks but 9 hours is far for us!
Edisto Island has no vacancies as we need the 2nd week in August.
Any ideas as to other campgrounds that may have availability?
My husband would love to fish & we have boys aged 2,8,11 to keep busy. And I'd like to avoid mosquitoes etc as much as poss!
Thx

Holden Beach pier is the only CG on the OF between Wilmington and the SC line. Never stayed there but live right down the road from it and pass by almost daily. It was really busy this past weekend, but normally not full except on holidays. Not much there except a site, no shade. But it is OF with a pier. There is a new CG here but it is about 1 mile to the beach. Not sure about North of Wilmington.

You got some good suggestions for SC OF.

BTW if you decide on a lake, check out Santee State park in SC. We were there for a couple of night two weeks ago. Kind of rustic, pretty good shade, water and electric. You can rent pontoon boats in the area. Some commercial CG there too.

good luck!

Ok, as an alternative how about a nice lake or somewhere with fishing in a scenic location with enough to keep kids busy (e.g streams, pool, beach or riding bikes etc)
I know it's a bit last minute!

Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach. I know you said you prefer it not be Myrtle Beach. Ocean Lakes has several ponds to fish in, you can surf fish, and there is a butt load of activities for the boys to do. Including a skate park under the observation tower.

Staying at one of the campgrounds at myrtle beach is way different than staying in a condo. Trust me, your boys will like it lot more.

Since you opened up lakes, consider Devil's Fork SP on Lake Jocassee. Even this late in the season, you should be able to grab something during the week. At only 1.5 hours from Asheville, it would be real easy on the driver.

Another consideration closer by would be Cascade Lakes Recreation Area near Brevard. You can rent canoes, go spend a day at Sliding Rock, take some short hikes in Dupont Forest, or just relax.

For Myrtle Beach you could try Ocean Lakes. Just checked the reservation system and they still have plenty of sites available. Would be extremely busy, but they do have lots to do in the CG.

You could try Holiday Trav-L Park on Emerald Isle, NC. Family resort camping on the ocean, very pricey, but lots to do for kids, plenty of fishing.

Hunting Island SC is great, also the most popular state park in SC but maybe you could get a cancellation. Near the city of Beaufort SC.

Huntington Beach State Park is right by the dunes, near Myrtle Beach.

I'm thinkin your best chance to get a site in August would be Apache. It is in north Myrtle, and a more quiet place, with a long fishing pier in the CG.

The closest NC oceanfront CG is at Holden Beach, at the pier. Only a place to setup the camper. Not much else there, except of course the beach, and pier.

Next up the coast on the oceanfront. Surf City Family CG on the Top sail island. Again not much there except a great beach

Myrtle Beach has several. Pirate Land is our favorite
